(5,953 posts)At least when the USSR was around, Capitalism had a competitor for the hearts and minds of the world. And this actually forced the capitalist economies of the world to be nicer and more compassionate to the poor, for fear that they would turn to communism as an alternative. Once the USSR collapsed, and capitalism was the clear winner, it didn't bother to do that, and things have only gotten worse since then.
As a democratic socialist, I have no use for communism; but I sure liked it when capitalism had a serious competitor, and therefore had to behave itself a little better.

(4,695 posts)became Redstate. Reagan and other GOP Presidents ran a Capitalist and covert Communistic warring system at the same time. The masses are the cannon fodder, feudalist of the Selective Service.
A new vote is coming: Vote for the candidates that understand how the people use Democratic Socialism to control the overreach of Capitalism. For me, this candidate is Senator Sanders.
I am hoping for a Left reaching (to the masses) Hillary Clinton, but I suspect that this will never be. Women will have to wait and see. The masses are looking to hear from Clinton on how she is more Left than Obama. For me, Clinton needs to explain what has happened to the New Deal and how she will reestablish it. She must campaign on seating a Congress of Democrats.
