2. The subtlety of racism in journalism on display front and center.

So let's unpack this.

When it's a white guy with a guy the headline focuses your attention on him using a non-personal and changeable descriptor. In this case, he's an "open carry activist". There is nothing personal about that and he could, for whatever reason, choose in the future to not be an open carry activist.

In contrast, when an African-American is involved in a similar incident, it seems like the headlines always include some kind of reference to his race...something that is very personal and can not just change on a whim.

Depersonalize white crime and personalize black crime. Crime by whites is because of choices they made. Crime by blacks is because they are black. Extrinsic causes versus intrinsic causes. The implied message is that white criminals are inherently good but their circumstances led them astray while black criminals - we'll they're just inherently bad.

We see the same thing in the individualization of white terrorist attacks (OK City, the PA State Cops, the guy in MO last month)...they're all about one guy with a screw lose. The same action by a person of color, well...that's because that entire population is subverted.

OK...rant off. This article title just hit me wrong today. (I know it's not the OP - I was referencing the raw story headline)

in it's choice of verbiage when reporting on most Social and Economic issues that involve Class and Ethnic makeup. And they wonder why their credibility is in the shitter. This selfish man believes that his right to open-carry a gun supersedes the rights of the police to protect kids, teachers, administrators, parents, itinerant educators such as nurses, audiologists, psychologists, social workers, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech/language therapists as they carry out their very busy duties. For nearly an hour, these people were prevented from entering or exiting the school. Of course the school administration had to declare a lock down while he acted out his fantasies. That is what is required when somebody is flaunting a gun near school property. I bet he has no idea of the human suffering that he inflicted here. Or maybe he does, and that is part of what turns him on.
