hurt the middle class is to stand still, he said. Thats right, I said stand still. I think its about time that we stop the production in this country.

(90 posts)stop the truck from moving freight across this country?
Stop the planes and the trains from moving people?
How does Mr. Gruber think this is going to win hearts and minds?
This is very similar to the folks that thought stopping people from getting to work and home generated sympathy towards the other causes where stoppages and blockages failed miserably.
My question: If labor unions are so good -- Why aren't people flocking to join them?
To clarify: I strongly believe in local unions but not national unions.

(57,936 posts)I know that in theory it is a good idea. But the reality is that being nice has not gotten people very far.
Obviously, one union cannot shut down manufacturing in the entire country. It's when union members work together and support each other that they can change reality.

Right wing radio and Faux News. They demonize the unions constantly. A lot of people believe what they say.

(1,835 posts)Seriously, no one who has ever participated in a union organizing effort would ask why people aren't flocking to join unions.
Management, government, the law, right wing propaganda and once in a while, even liberals, make it difficult to organize.

(26,624 posts)If it is a fundamental principle that public sector employees ought not to have the right to collective bargaining, why are the police, firefighters and state troopers of Wisconsin not part of the package?
n NPR this morning, Walker answered that he couldnt take the risk of cops and firefighters going out on strike and allow mayhem to ensue. But thats an appeal to consequences and a very dangerous one rather than a principled reason.

(57,936 posts)One of the problems I have with Third-Wayers is that they don't protect public employees, the idea of the civil service (they prefer to hire and contract out to hire private contractors) or any employees for that matter.
Obama should have gone to Wisconsin and stood up for the unions. He did, and now Walker is running for president. Obama does a lot of things right, but he was very wrong, morally and politically wrong on that one.

(13,570 posts)COMMUNICATE better to the people. Unions and the left REFUSE TO INVEST IN EFFECTIVE MEDIA ! They refuse to invest in tv and radio to counter right wing tv and radio. That's the first step.
The next step is to get people to VOTE. When 37% of people vote, of course the RePUKES are going to win. Dems/Progressive sit home on their lazy apathetic asses instead of taking a few minutes to go and VOTE. So you get what you deserve.
Next, TELL YOUR OWN MEMBERS TO STOP VOTING REPUBLICAN. There's a thought.
