You wouldn't expect to find a 2 pound puppy curled up next to a dumpster in a parking lot. But that is exactly where a Good Samaritan found little Squidget...

was "Rock", a Shepard mixed mutt I rescued from inside a dumpster in the alley behind my home.

It was garbage day, and I was headed to work as normal. I could hear the garbage truck a street over, when I walked out to my car. I got in my car, turned the key; but the car was dead. I got out my car and kicked the rear tire because I was going to have to catch the bus (or walk) to walk.

As I was walking down the alley, I thought I heard whimpering. I walked closer and, Yep, I heard what I thought I heard but I could not see anything. (I would have to climb in) I could hear the garbage truck getting closer, so I ran back to my house, took off my suit and put on some jeans.

I got back to the dumpster, just as the garbage truck was turning the corner. So, in I went ... tossed garbage to the side, digging.

Finally, I find him .... Curled up in a corner of the dumpster was a filthy ball of fur. I picked him up and handed him to one of the garbage men who saw me in the dumpster and got out to see what the heck I was doing in there.

I had that dog for better than 10 years ... I can't help thinking, "If my car had started that morning, I would have missed out on the best dog I've ever had ... heck, he was house broken from almost day one.
