Immediately following the match, Clark, 27, went into damage control, and posted these apologies on Twitter:
Major League Soccer on Saturday issued a statement that it is reviewing the incident, and said it is conducting a thorough review of the facts and examining possible disciplinary action. Colin is very remorseful for his actions, which were inappropriate and do not represent his true character, the Dynamo said in a statement of their own on Saturday. He has issued a public apology and he will personally apologize to the ball boy.

Emotion isn't the new Devil that makes you do things; you don't do something you don't intend to do. Saying otherwise is just another way of avoiding responsibility. He meant to call the ball boy a faggot and nothing but his own self made him do it. The league needs to come down hard on both the player and the team, because all Houston and Clark are trying to do is cover their ass. They aren't sorry for attacking a person or even their fans, considering many of them might be gay (I'm gay myself, I'm not making a witty comment about Houston's fans).
Clark tweeted the LGBT soccer site Gay4Soccer apologizing for the incident and asking to be considered an LGBT soccer ally. You can read the post here. He's simply in spin mode. Sure he'd love for the LGBT community to consider him an ally; but he doesn't already consider himself one. And we know why, after what he did to the kid.
Hopefully there can be some good coming out of his. But I won't hold my breath.

It must be a major part of his vocabulary.
Can you imagine what he says at home?

(81,842 posts)I'm sure that MLS will come down hard. My guess...7-10 games.

(23,314 posts)The ball was rolled to the line before Colin got there, it wasn't late. Perhaps it should have been handed to him by someone with clean white gloves, so as not to offend his Colin-ness.

(3,944 posts)That a-hole ball boy made him take 1 1/2 steps to his right and bend down to pick up the ball!!!
He was probably SMILING at Colin as well.
The game was only 5 minutes in. I doubt anyone could use the "swept up in the emotion of the game" argument here (not that it's a valid argument anyway). Homophobic slur, plain and simple.

(23,314 posts)and it should have gotten him a fine and a red card.
I completely missed what got him offended in the first place. Having to step 1 or 2 steps to his right, well, now I understand it, and the ball boy deserved a verbal thumping, ala John McEnroe!
What would be good ball boy soccer etiquette? To roll the ball like he did, or to toss it to Colins' chest like a basketball, or to "one bounce" it to Colin's chest as in tennis?
I'm sure Colin apologized, something like "I'm sorry my choice of words offended you".
