CEO of company that poisoned WV water tries to skip questions, local reporter will have none of it

&feature=youtu.be

Watched this live here in Charleston

His full conference was a half-assed apology, followed by this attempt to leave after just minutes.

Bravo to Kallie Cart of Channel 8 for giving voice to the 300,000 here who want answers.

Folks here are livid that he was chugging down his bottled water for the camera while they wait for drinking water to be shipped in. It was a big F U to everyone watching.

1. What a doofus

To stand there drinking water while others don't have any because of him... There are no words.

6. My first thoughts too. And I agree with your summation.

Seriously, did nobody tell him that drinking bottled water while talking about why others can't drink theirs was a bad idea? Does anybody even need to be told that?

And that is beside the point that drinking anything continuously (without a medical condition) is a sign of feeling guilt.

and has that BP disaster accent.

Good for the reporter!

WE'RE NOT DONE!

Now tell us. How much government money does your company receive from the US taxpayer each year?

How many lobbyists do you employ?

How many EPA regulations have you violated and how much in fines have you paid?

Like "Compassionate Conservatives," it means the exact opposite of the meaning of the words strung together.

Well, it could be "Freedom to poison, knowing repigs will let us get away with it," I guess.

Certainly not, so take the chip off your shoulder while posting & keep in mind when you post that we're all Democrats here. To say that to another DUer is insulting & self-righteous. No one posting here is thrilled about having to live in a red state.

She pulled the same trick on these awful CEOs of a fracking company. The moment they realized what they were offered, the horror on their faces was fantastic.

Which is to say, I wholeheartedly endorse your idea.

24. As much as it saddens me to point this out

this incident illustrates why the next resource war will be over water.

Just came back from Lake Charles Louisiana along the Gulf Coast - nothing but petro-chemical refineries from Houston to Lake Charles and farther. That part of the US is known as cancer alley.

My uncle at 86 had worked in the refinery business for 35 years died of aggressive leukemia....Both of my aunts died of cancers.

Was having some quality time with cousins and didn't want the soda pop they were indulging in so I got up to get myself some water from the tap. Word out there (and this was from my uncle's medical doctor) was don't drink the water. So I helped myself to a bottled water.

And the push for privatization of municipal water supplies continues. All the while the polluters are compromising the safety of water supplies nation wide.

31. Reminds me of dear Marie

"Qu’ils mangent de la brioche" - (which she really never said) - but was enough to pin a revolution to.
I had a relative that lived in West Virginia in the area this ass-hat is from and he said that the owners and upper management for the companies that polluted the air and water in the hills always were imported from more affluent states. What the coal companies have done with mountain top removal makes you cry when you see it. My cousin said they viewed the locals as disposable labor who would suffer anything handed to them for a $10 an hour job and treated the environment with contempt.
That being said, WV is a beautiful state with magnificent trout streams, great hunting and vistas that are breathtaking. But with all of its pluses, the people are hard-core conservatives that take the government dole with one hand and slap it by voting Republican with the other. And as such they have given the Repukes free hand to do as they wish in ignoring any law in regard to protecting people and/or the environment.

35. Uh-Oh...Freedom Industries Link to Koch Billionaires?

First there is this story from the Charleston Gazette:

http://www.wvgazette.com/News/201401100119

Note the flaky/seedy past of one of the founders.

Then, there was this little blurb at this site:

http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php?title=Georgia-Pacific

At the Coal Prep 2008 Exhibition and Conference, Georgia-Pacific Chemicals LLC unveiled its new patent-pending Talon (TM) Mining Reagents product line in conjunction with its distributor, Freedom Industries. According to Georgia-Pacific, the use of Talon reagents improve coal yields by selectively binding to clay in the flotation separation process, reducing ash content and resulting in a low-moisture, high-BTU/ton coal.

FreedomWorks & if my memory doesn't fail me, some other freedomy stuff as well. They love freedom -- their own.

Kochs silent partners in this thing?

Because I read some of the principal's backgrounds & it sure didn't seem like they had the backgrounds or capital to mount such an enterprise.

The CEO who dealt coke before starting his business?

It would be so wonderful if the Kochs were involved in this mess & that fact was revealed to the world.

46. Yes, the STENCH of "Freedom"...

...and the patriotic stench of a red/white/blue website were all indicators of a Koch link.

I guess I should have stated that Georgia Pacific is owned by the two cowardly psychopaths. Then again, I assumed that, by now, everybody knew this.

I am betting that "Freedom Industries" is a corporation that is very much like the cowardly "dark money" that is ripping apart the United States.

36. I'm glad they're holding his feet to the fire, so to speak, but they absolutely need

to keep up the pressure after the story has left the headlines. West Virginia has been hit hard with mountaintop removal and deregulation. Some of the most beautiful land in the country and it needs to be protected. It doesn't belong to the energy companies.

Reporters, please don't let things go back to 'business as usual' after the smoke clears. This needs to be fixed, permanently. If it's not, this, or something worse will happen again. Something like this was inevitable, so you only get to act surprised, once.
