(30,058 posts)Control our tongues. He had gotten to the other side of the street and could have been on his way but his immaturity did not control his urge to throw insults at the police which had let him go. I hope his parents instruct him on proper behavior.

(30,058 posts)Than to go across the street and taunt the same police who had just sent him on his way. Now the question to you do you think this was a smart move on his part? If you do then you need some reality.

(30,058 posts)You think the police should be arrested and thrown in jail, etc then the young thug should be treated the same. Now it doesn't sound like you want equal treatment for the police, then the young thug should get his due also. Like I said before, not smart.

(30,058 posts)You are right on the bullshit part, the thug kid was full of it. He should get smart soon or he will be subject to more abuse.

(9,214 posts)been the adult(s) in this situation? The cops could have just gotten into their cars and drove away. And why if there were 4 or 5 cops already there did they think they might need a K-9 unit too?
Do you remember this from when you were a kid? Sticks and stones can break...
Some never learn the lessons of youth, do they?

Sounds a lot like fascism to me. YMMV.
If I were this kid's parents, I'd be giving him a lesson in how to sue the police for a 6 figure settlement.

I disagree with you on one point: 7 figures should be the minimum to send a message to the authorities in charge of these pigs.

(30,058 posts)Have stopped. I saw resistance on the tape by the kid, this is the result of his resistance, he is a smart ass, not smart to know when to stop.

(11,012 posts)ON HIS NECK because he sassed them.
Was he smart? No. Cops are often dangerous, undisciplined, and uncontrolled. Anyone dealing with one should use the caution one would use with an injured wild animal.
Since one never knows whether a cop is a good cop or a bad cop, one should be cautious with all of them. But there's no law against stupidity, the kid was not breaking the law by exercising his rights to free speech.
BTW, dogs (including the breed the police used in this video) have been known to KILL animals with larger necks than that kids by biting the neck.

(30,058 posts)When they approach follow their commands, they are trained to subdue those who resist. Thugs gets out of hand.

(37,157 posts)It's a word that is generally applied to people who use or threaten violence, not as a synonym for "colossally dumb-ass mouthy punk". Other people are correctly applying it to the police, from their perspective.
Please expand on your seemingly variant definition, or consider that you're using the wrong word.

(15,189 posts)You mean while handcuffed, and on his back with 6 thugs beating him. Oh yeah I see what you mean.
And he never should have assaulted the dog that was chewing on his ear, he just should have taken his punishment for name calling the pigs.

(18,998 posts)Equal treatment would be if they hurled insults at him....not beat the shit out of him and turn a dog lose on him.
When you set people with such power that they can do that over words you release a monster...and this proves it.

(6,810 posts)Little Johnny Victim is walking along road when he sees a dog tied up to a tree on the opposite side. As he approaches, the dog begins growling. Little Johnny Victim has 2 choices: Stay on the opposite side of the street and continue on his way, or cross the street to get closer to the dog. He decides to cross the street and get closer to the animal. As he gets even closer to the dog, its growling has turned to angry barking and snarling. Little Johnny Victim is faced with 2 new choices: Either back away from the now-enraged animal and continue on his way, or continue approaching the animal. He decides to take the 3rd option: Actively provoke the dog. The leash that held the dog to the tree finally snaps after a minute of the taunting. Little Johnny Victim is fortunate to have survived the savage mauling he suffers.
The only meaningful difference between this analogy and this video is that unlike the dog, the officers won't be euthanized. Their bosses, like the dog's owner, will likely be sued.
I take a dim view of the majority of police forces (I don't hate them, but incidents like this don't make me trust them either) but let's not pretend that Little Johnny Victim here didn't have ample and frankly rare opportunity to just fucking move on no worse for wear: The cops questioned him unshackled, let him go on his way and put up with his verbal haranguing for over a minute. He brought this upon himself and is lucky he isn't dead. The cops for their grotesque over-reaction almost certainly won't see a day in jail and we all know this.
Do. Not. Provoke. Cops. They probably have rabies.

(9,214 posts)a vicious dog. Very aptly I might add, they were acting like vicious dogs and not humans. A human would have walked away from what was obviously a harmless but mad kid.
You are also right, cops do indeed need stronger leashes.
Very good analogy!

(23,726 posts)free speech first of all is a hallmark of our nation, secondly yes, it was immature but the god damn cops are professionals and need to just back off. Fucking cops are always looking for the "win" it's from being arrogant, rhoid filled and power hungry and third even if this was a crime to yell at the cops, the reaction of force was not justified.

(492 posts)If a guy with a club says he wants to beat you in the face with it, walk away, don't say "Oh, yeah, I'd like to see you try. The kid knew better than to provoke uniformed, armed men accompanied by an attack dog, but didn't act on his knowledge.
The cops -- not the dog! -- involved, however, should be fired and jailed -- neither of which is going to come even close to happening.
The kid's lawyer is going to live well on his share of the lawsuit's proceeds! If this case goes to trial, I'm giving the kid millions, just on the basis of the pictures of his injuries. (Oh, and there will be a case -- but it will be settled for an undisclosed sum that, one hopes, this foolish man-child won't fritter away.)

(32,641 posts)hires lawyers that are as ruthless as those officers to go after them and the city.
At one time I had a low opinion of lawyers, not anymore.
When police brass and cities have to pay millions and millions of $, they get the point and start to get control of these idiot cops. To bad it cost the taxpayers so much, but that is the only way to control them. The cops that act this way have to pay a big price and so do their bosses.
