Thom Hartmann: Will Obama get "Sophie's Choice?"

Days before the March 1 deadline, Senate Republicans are circulating a draft bill that would cancel $85 billion in across-the-board spending cuts and instead turn over authority to President Barack Obama to achieve the same level of savings under a plan to be filed by March 8. In other words - Republicans want to say, "You still have to cut things, Mr. President, but instead of cutting them the way we voted for, we're going to give you the Sophie's Choice of what to cut. And, that way, you'll own the cuts, instead of us owning them."

1. No, because it would still not bring in revenue...

...and Democrats aren't going to pass it in the Senate.

Putting the U.S. on a kinder gentler version of Greek austerity is stupid and will quite possible lead to a recession.

but really, this is just the beginning, because the next crises is to continue funding the government. I fully suspect Republicans to shut the government down, this time.

2. I expect it too

I'm also disgusted with D.C. constantly poking me with an electric prod. Enough. Move forward with the President and Senate you've got or just shut it down. I HATE the thought of the day to day impact - but maybe then we'll all get DAMN MAD.

3. That plan worked really well for Newt...

I hope Boehner, Cantor and the rest of the idiot brigade in the House decide that they are going to go down that same path. Their ideas are already discredited and they have offered exactly NOTHING NEW. Try repeating the mistakes of the past in the hopes of a different result guys, I'm sure that will work out really well.

I hate that innocent people are going to be harmed by this, but they better all remember exactly whose name is on the red-hot poker being shoved up their asses - John "I got 98% of what I wanted" Boehner.

4. The way things are gerrymandered, they live in safe seats.

Republicans working with my wife are all saying will remmeber how Obama and Democrats caused the whole problem. Most of them live in an alternate world.
