1. This show is designed for people with the IQ of 2nd graders

Ask a guy a question, then, when he answers, cut him off and say he's 'ranting,' then act aghast that he's angry with you.

53. Also

... don't forget to accuse them of being Angry. Apparently that's some kind of mortal sin in the face of fascist efforts to make everything all better. The charge, false or true, looks especially bad on women because God only knows what we'll do next! Maybe that's the reason some people call blacks angry, too. Underhanded rightwing scare tactics.

Well, I for one still have the backbone to get angry and I don't care who knows it. But I admit it's ever so much finer when you can shred a belligerent opponent with a sweet innocent smile.

To be thrown off Hannity's show is quite an honor.

13. He does, he's wonderful. Lucky you!

Hannity is a muzzy-headed halfwit on his best day. I'm delighted Ellison went out there and called him on it. Unfortunately, no typical Hannity fans would understand what he was saying, it went right over their heads.

I applaud him for the effort, though. Very plucky of him to try.

4. Hannity said he's a "registered conservative".

I didn't know there was a political party in the U.S. called the "Conservative Party". I know that there is the Republican Party, the Constitution Party, and the Libertarian Party (which are all pretty conservative in ideology). But I never heard of a "Conservative" Party. And Bill O'Reilly does the same thing by calling himself an "Independent". They both shill for the GOP and bash Democrats every day, so why are they so ashamed of calling themselves Republicans?

Also it's interesting that Ellison got conveniently cut off when he mentioned the debt that was created prior to Obama taking office. It's as if the GOP wants people to forget that we had a president from 2000 to 2008.

Not that they're any different from the Repugs...in fact they often just endorse the GOP candidate, or the GOP candidate runs in both parties.

17. I even met New York's last Senator from that party

Bill Buckley's brother, Jim. Had the same smarmy accent, too, although he wasn't the smug superior type his brother was. I had just spent a year in Franco's Spain, and when Agnew (as Nixon's VP) made it a point to visit Franco on July 18th (the anniversary of the 1936 Fascist uprising that put Franco in power three incredibly bloody years later), I asked him if he found the timing of the visit just a little inappropriate, seeing as how Franco had backed Hitler and Mussolini in World War II. True to form, Buckley didn't find anything wrong with the date at all, although I later wondered if he even knew what the date meant to the people of Spain.

Sean Hannity and Joe Scarborough-two of a kind. Always cuttiing off when their guests are speaking. Someone should clock them with a stop watch, count of how many seconds before they interupt and how often. I am waiting for a guest to rip off the mike and clock one of them. They deserve it for rudeness, never mind their constant bullying, same goes for Bill O'Reilly.

21. Being combative weakens the argument.

Making the case in a calm fashion, and dismantling the talking points in a controlled and calm manner will win you more debates than being on the attack. Let Hannity ask his question, then dismantle it with facts, calmly. I was not impressed with the congressmans argument.

Love Congressman Ellison, but Hannity is a shill to more than the republican party. Hannity shills for the corporate fascists over-lords that have bought our government.

38. I think every Democrat guest should adopt this tactic

Don't be afraid of the bullies at Fox News. Don't play by the traditional polite rules of news interviews. Why? Because they don't....ever. I like how Hannity (and he's not the only one on that farce of a network) always pre-couches a question with a lie, then "..and thats a fact" before quickly asking his main question. I applaud that Ellison refused to let him get away with that.

If those hacks at Fox want to cut off and bully their guests, then the guests should do the same. What would happen is that viewers would get turned off because you wouldn't hear either one. Of course that would only work for the 5% of Democratic guests they have on.

That's all I can take from watching that clip. No reason to be impressed with either one of them in that exchange. If either one of them has aspirations of making an effective, principled argument for their position such that they might persuade others, they didn't show it. Kabuki theater anyway...and today they are both getting a lot of attention for it. Mission accomplished I guess.

44. In that video, yes.

If either one of them was trying to persuade others toward their point of view, they were equivalent in their failure. I could see people on each end of the spectrum cheering for "their guy" in that argument. I cannot see anyone looking for facts or reasoned analysis being impressed in the slightest by either one of them. They both came off as clowns.

45. Sure they were equivalent in their failure to persuade each other,

but that's a rather strange criteria to judge this by. If a holocaust survivor and a holocaust denier failed to convince each other would you categorize them as equivalent?

Ellison was trying to state facts and Hannity was trying to obscure facts. That's not equivalence. Your username is apt.

46. We're talking about cuts that aren't really cuts

Spending will still go up, just by less than it would have without the sequester. Comparing it to a debate between a holocaust survivor and a holocaust denier...that's not equivalence. But I don't think you meant to suggest this is a debate about as weighty a topic as the holocaust.

That said, if the survivor and denier engaged in a conversation that was simply a bunch of insults and interruptions, I'm not going to be interested in listening to either of them.

I doubt that Hannity and Ellison could ever convince each other of anything. I'm just saying that the type of "discussion" they had is also unlikely to convince anyone but those who are already big fans of one of those guys. If a viewer came to watch that conversation with an open mind, looking for well reasoned arguments on both sides of the issues, I suspect they'd be equally disappointed with both Hannity and Ellison.

42. Everything Ellison tried to say, Hannity either laughed at or called "ranting".

This isn't dialog. It's nothing but belittling and talking over your opponent because you can since it's your show.

Why would anyone want to watch this? There's little or no informational content. Hannity actively tries to prevent anything resembling information from getting out.

We need some sort of strategy for dealing with the childish "debate" tactics used by people like Hannity.

Part of me feels like Democrats shouldn't even bother to go on these shows, but that doesn't seem like a good answer. We need a way to get on and actually present some real information to people.

Then again, with Faux's ratings going down, maybe it would be best just to ignore them.

Those groups opposed to the extreme right wing Republicans and their supporters should take a lesson from Rep. Ellison and his rebuke of Hannity. No name calling just a pure statement of fact. This is what upsets people of Hannitys position, plainly state what they are, if Fox and crew are not fair and balance, say so. Contradict their false objectivity, but of course you may not be invited to be on Morning Joe.
