Thom Hartmann: Dr. Richard Wolf - DC's Dangerous Game

Dr. Richard Wolf, Democracy At Work, joins Thom Hartmann. Thanks to Republicans and their refusal to close a few tax loopholes for billionaires - it appears that the U.S. is headed for the sequester and for devastating austerity. Given what's happened with austerity in Europe - why are Republicans playing this very dangerous game with our economy?

I watch his Brecht Forum talks every month. They're about an hour and a half long, but they're riveting.

Here's the thing...Prof Wolff explains, starting at 3:35 in, what the problem is and how to solve it. WHY then, can't or won't Obama go before the American people and say what Wolff is saying in terms a 10 year old can understand. The American people would get it.

Instead we get this gobbledygook, essentially a rehash of Repub talking points, from a president who, otherwise, is capable of being stunningly articulate. Why is that?

It's when I compare Prof. Wolff's explanation with Pres. Obama's that I know in my bones that Pres. Obama isn't interested, at least in this case, in leading "we the people" to any fundamental understanding of our plight.

And it's infuriating.

2. The corporations own our federal government

It is NOT to their benefit to have a well functioning equitable economy. Right now they are harvesting America. If a real functioning economy were the goal we would not be talking about very stupid, nonessential stuff like a federal debt. We would be talking about the federal government being the employer of last resort, not the lender of last resort to banking kings.

The corporations and uber rich like Mitt Romney are raiding what wealth remains in the US. They are grabbing up everything they can while telling us all to look over there at the debt. Even Obama is helping the harvest by pushing pathetically little solutions of minor affect and offering up our social safety net as a compromise scapegoat to the corporations. All RepubliCONS and most Democrats are assisting in turning over our middle class wealth to corporation. When they are finished the harvest and poverty and crumbling infrastructure is all that remains, one of those uber rich bastards are going to declare himself the American dictator for life.
