America Totally Discredited -- Paul Craig Roberts

But the rest of the world has learned to avoid Washington’s rush to war when there is no evidence. A foolish Obama was pushed far out on the limb by an incompetent and untrustworthy National Security Advisor, Susan Rice, and the pack of neoconservatives that support her, and the British Parliament cut the limb off.

What kind of fool would put himself in that vulnerable position?

Now Obama stands alone, isolated, trying to back away from his threat to attack without authorization from anyone--not from the UN, not from NATO, not from Congress who he ignored--a sovereign country. Under the Nuremberg Standard military aggression is a war crime. Washington has until now got away with its war crimes by cloaking them in UN or NATO approval. Despite these “approvals,” they remain war crimes.

1. All points totally true.

But it's not too late to stand back and regain reason.

6. Maybe if Obama would trade in his Republican cabinet and Agency heads for real Democrats.

And I do not mean replacing them with DLC, New Democrats or DINO's.

7. He's trying to back down without backing down

He knows the "red line" rhetoric was an unforced error to begin with, mere blather to make himself look tough, and then when chemical weapons appeared to have been used Cameron and his own advisors sucked him into compounding the error with more tough words about punishment. Then all the rats left the sinking ship and he is sitting there with egg on his face, trying to pretent he doesn't look like an idiot.

His bluff has been called, big time, and he has no clue whatever what to do about it.

8. I think the people he's surrounded himself with...

... are a huge part of the problem here. I hope he'll make some reassessments about his trusted advisory after this is over.

I agree that he's likely feeling uncertain just how to proceed now. The sensible out is simply to cite new evidence "raising doubts," (there's plenty of REAL evidence that could be used this way) and signal that military intervention has been "placed on hold." Then just wait for the media to move on to something else. Still pretty clumsy but much better than launching any kind of attack, even a limited one.

9. Paul Craig Roberts was a devoted Reaganite, wasn't he? An advocate of the position

that the Civil Rights Act institutionalizes discrimination against white males? Winner of an award from ALEC?

Let's take a quick peek at his notion of sound economic theory:

If you want to understand what is happening to Microsoft, read “Atlas Shrugged” ... Hank Rearden, inventor of the fabulous Rearden metal, is harassed and blackmailed by unaccountable government until he, like other persecuted businessmen, shrugs and walks away to join John Galt in a passive resistance ... Rand is scathing in her comparisons of the government class with the entrepreneurial class. She could rewrite her story today using real characters ...
Bill Gates, Meet Ayn Rand
Paul Craig Roberts (2001.01.02 )

Want to guess who he supported in 2012?

... Ron Paul is our last chance .... the other candidates offer no hope whatsoever ...
How Ron Paul Could Win
January 27, 2012

Bottom line: um, he's a rightwing libertarian

11. Can't help noticing how careful you were...

... in your remarks to avoid actually addressing the content of his editorial.

Is there some reason for that? I think there is. I think it's because it's much easier to slap a label on someone and use it as a handy means of dismissing anything they may have to offer than it is to construct your own reasoned analysis/argumentation specifically answering what that person has to say.

Sadly, an all too often tactic used by some here for the obvious purpose of stifling meaningful discussion.

14. He's also a racist shitbag...

But the most fearsome fact is that the demonization of white people in the universities today is more extreme than the demonization of the Jews that was a prominent feature of German university life for 60 years prior to the rise of National Socialism.

Demonization of whites is the weapon used by multiculturalists to breakup western civilization. But teaching hatred has other consequences. Demonization has already demoralized some whites, making them ashamed and fearful of their skin color.

By the time whites become political minorities, decades of demonization will have prepared the ground for legislation prohibiting their propagation and, perhaps, assigning them to the gulag as a final solution to “the cancer of human history.”

That's from a glowing review that he gave to Pat Buchanan's book "Death of the West".

I'm not linking to it, because I don't want to drive any traffic to VDARE.

18. Since Sid forgot to point it out, let me add that Roberts is an anti-semite:

... Far-right sources that have published Roberts' columns on Jews include American Free Press, an overtly anti-Semitic weekly newspaper, and VDare, a racist Web site. CounterPunch, a far-left anti-Zionist newsletter, and Antiwar, a conspiracy-oriented, anti-Semitic Web site, also often feature Roberts' anti-Semitic columns. Roberts has also been interviewed on the Political Cesspool, a white supremacist radio show ... His published views .. go far beyond any criticism of Israel's policies, regularly charging Israeli or Jewish control of the U.S. government and media and comparing Israel to the Nazi regime ...

We can, incidentally, see evidence of this immediately in the very next article on the page you linked:

Obama, pushed by his Israeli and neocon masters, especially his National Security Advisor, Susan Rice, who, in effect, functions as an Israeli agent, crawled far out on the limb ...

20. Yeah, I don't admire Robert's devotion to Ayn Rand or his role in Reaganomics; I think people,

who claim that civil rights legislation harms "white" people, are apologists for racism; I despise the rightwing barrage coming from ALEC; and I consider folk, who can't distinguish between Israelis and Jews, and who believe US foreign policy is governed by some Zionist conspiracy, to be the intellectual heirs of a stupid and ugly tradition that includes such masterworks as The Protocols of the Elders of Zion

Roberts manages to meet all those criteria and probably many more

So Roberts doesn't rank high on my list of folk to take seriously: he's a rightwinger, attacking a black liberal President with whatever Roberts finds in his own paw -- and that's some pretty stinky monkey-poo

16. Obama should be careful - he doesn't have the family Bush has.

Or a VP that shoots people in the face.

If he breaks the law, he'll be in an entirely different position than Bush is.

This is so true. Bully BHO wanted to act on his own like babyBush but no one is taking the bait this time.

Wish he'd been that bullyish about fighting for a public option and healthCARE reform rather than health insurance whatever...
