Liberalism, atheism, male sexual exclusivity linked to IQ

"Evolutionary psychologist Satoshi Kanazawa at the the London School of Economics and Political Science correlated data on these behaviors with IQ from a large national U.S. sample and found that, on average, people who identified as liberal and atheist had higher IQs. This applied also to sexual exclusivity in men, but not in women. The findings will be published in the March 2010 issue of Social Psychology Quarterly."

"The study found that young adults who said they were "very conservative" had an average adolescent IQ of 95, whereas those who said they were "very liberal" averaged 106."

1. This is because the questions on the IQ tests are biased

to favor members of the reality-based community.

2. Here is the part that is about to be ignored

The IQ differences, while statistically significant, are not stunning -- on the order of 6 to 11 points -- and the data should not be used to stereotype or make assumptions about people, experts say.

Any bets on people paying any attention to this disclaimer?

7. The average IQ of the "very liberal" = only 106?

that's much lower than expected.

You know what I find funny? Google "IQ tests," find any site with a forum or user feedback, and it seems as if everyone in the world has an IQ of 150 or higher.

The chance that so many geniuses would gather together on Yahoo to argue about who is a genius and who is not is astounding.

Astounding, I say.

14. This was debunked by back in 2010: "freakishly fact-free evolutionary psychology"

Stop patting yourselves on the back over this study

Category: Stupidity
Posted on: February 25, 2010 10:40 AM, by PZ Myers

Good grief. This ridiculous study is making the rounds of the atheist community, with its claim that liberals and atheists are smarter than conservatives and religious people. Look at the numbers!

Young adults who identify themselves as "not at all religious" have an average IQ of 103 during adolescence, while those who identify themselves as "very religious" have an average IQ of 97 during adolescence.

Seriously? Show me the error bars on those measurements. Show me the reliability of IQ as a measure of actual, you know, intelligence. Show me that a 6 point IQ difference matters at all in your interactions with other people, even if it were real. And then to claim that these differences are not only heritable, but evolutionarily significant…jebus, people, you can just glance at it and see that it is complete crap.

And then look at the source: Satoshi Kanazawa, the Fenimore Cooper of Sociobiology, the professional fantasist of Psychology Today. He's like the poster boy for the stupidity and groundlessness of freakishly fact-free evolutionary psychology. Just ignore anything with Kanazawa's name on it.

16. I can't dismiss this that easily

How else do you account for the Republican ideology? The voting against their own interests and so on? The pickup trucks with Bush-Cheney bumper stickers? How can a rational thinking person with an IQ above that of a rock vote Republican? There has to be an explanation.

15. CNN has always been a bastion of liberal ideology. Turn it off! Watch some FOX! (I'm off

to get naked now, being that I have at least 106 IQ). lol

17. Horseshit.

I'm a liberal, agnostic, monogamous male, with a high IQ, and I say this is horseshit.
