The story behind Mitt Romney’s loss in the presidential campaign to President Obama

The story behind Mitt Romney’s loss in the presidential campaign to President Obama

By Michael Kranish
The Boston Globe Staff / December 22, 2012

It was two weeks before Election Day when Mitt Romney’s political director signed a memo that all but ridiculed the notion that the Republican presidential nominee, with his “better ground game,” could lose the key state of Ohio or the election. The race is “unmistakably moving in Mitt Romney’s direction,” the memo said.
To this day, Romney’s aides wonder how it all went so wrong.
They console each other with claims that the election was much closer than realized, saying that Romney would be president if roughly 370,000 people in swing states had voted differently. Romney himself blamed demographic shifts and Obama’s “gifts”: federal largesse targeted to Democratic constituencies.
But a reconstruction by the Globe of how the campaign unfolded shows that Romney’s problems went deeper than is widely understood. His campaign made a series of costly financial, strategic, and political mistakes that, in retrospect, all but assured the candidate’s defeat, given the revolutionary turnout tactics and tactical smarts of President Obama’s operation.

6. No it was Big Bird Mitt's fault

He didn't have a clue how to talk to people -- "look at the trees" and making himself use darker makeup when he was in a state that had more Latinos and the 47% and on and on and on and on
A jerk

He also believed that Rove's Elves had set it up to steal the ELECTION -- wrong again.

He could not even run a grade D "run" to the White House , how could he have run this country?

7. FANTASY LAND

The GOP BELIEF system is totally to blame for their failures. They never base their actions with solid action which is GOOD for people. They focus on making the 1% happy and give everyone else a belief that "trickle down " will be the reward for believing in the evil demons who are the GOP.

8. I love reading this stuff.

I'll be savoring their defeat up until the inaugaration. After that it's time to gear up for the fights of 2013.

9. Wait a minute...

They keep touting there ground game in 2004 which for it's time was good. BUT even with that ground game they barely won. It all came down to one state and the race could have gone either way. If they are beating their chests remembering a sqeaker that's a huge morale problem (which I like).
