Education Cuts Protests Across Europe

Many countries in Central and Eastern Europe have trimmed back spending on education after the 2008 global financial crisis and its aftermath. Across Europe, there is a shortage of mathematicians, scientists and engineers.

Pupils, parents and teachers have joined protests against these austerity cuts, saying it will damage the future of European children. The cuts saw class sizes increase, teachers working more hours for the same pay, cuts in support allowances, and university tuition fees increased by up to 25%.
