Romney: open federal lands to drilling. How much oil and gas ?

Romney would open federal lands to drilling. How much oil and gas is there?

The report found that opening up all of these areas would bring in $7 billion in tax revenue over the next decade. That’s fairly small compared to the $148.9 billion in royalties that the federal government is expected to receive from existing leases.
Why so little revenue? In part because those currently restricted areas don’t seem to have much oil and gas compared with what’s already available. Here’s a chart that might help clarify matters:

(If someone can tell me how to copy and paste the chart, I'd gladly add it, but for now, since I'm new and don't know how, you'll just have to follow my link to the article.)

When he promises "energy independence" by 2020, he's always careful to define the region that is "independent" as "North America" (i.e. the US, Canada and presumably Mexico). He's counting on all that Canadian tar sand oil in his planet-killing nightmare "drill-baby-drill on steroids" fantasy.

Here's the figure: (for a .jpg just type the URL into your post - DU automatically inserts the image without the need for any special tags)

(1) Grab a copy of the photo you want either with
(A) Right-click and then "Save Picture As"
(B) A Screen Capture tool (most computers/laptops come w/ some type of Screen Capture tool)
(2) Post it a photo sharing site, like Flickr, Webshots, etc.
(3) Bring the picture up at the photo sharing site that you want, and then use the "Direct Link to Image" option
It typically begins with http://...
And ends with.jpg (or .png, etc.)
