Rochelle Riley: Rep. Steve King adds to GOP's Todd Akin problem

Rochelle Riley: Rep. Steve King adds to GOP's Todd Akin problem

It's been a hard two days for the Grand Old Party.

Trying to deflect attention from Todd Akin, who has gone rogue, has been akin to when they tried to deflect attention away from Sarah Palin, who went rogue four years ago.

You can't put that kind of genie back in the bottle, particularly when there's more than one genie.

All those folks who either said Akin was a fluke, an anomaly and that his words - that legitimate rape doesn't end in pregnancy - were a slip of the tongue or a lapse in judgment, weren't expecting Rep. Steve King.

The Iowa Republican has been defending Akin, and he must have decided that the best way to draw attention away from Akin, was to say something as stupid.

King told a Sioux City, Iowa television station that he hasn’t heard of instances of young victims statutory rape or incest victims becoming pregnant.

but the Akin thing's been spreading for nearly a week, and

1. The GOP is predicted to win the Senate, including Akin's seat
2. They are predicted to gain House seats
3. The presidential race is very close

and that's without figuring in voter suppression.

I don't understand, after 20 years, how people can still say, "The Repukes have gone too far this time", or, "This one's sure to backfire". It should be crystal clear that these statements are patently false.
