Salon: Food chains owned by far right-wingers who've funded conservative super-PACs

Really had to slice & dice this one due to DU's 4 paragraph rule...go to the link for a more meaningful read.

Right-wing food companies

These food chains are owned by far right-wingers who've funded conservative super-PACs

2. Carl’s Jr. - Carl’s Jr. founder Carl Karcher, who died in 2008, had been a supporter of anti-abortion causes for decades. In particular, Karcher was fond of funding the anti-choice group Operation Rescue. He also had a mean anti-gay streak as well. From the AP story that followed his death:

He was reviled by abortion rights activists for his contributions to anti-abortion groups and his oft-repeated story about talking a Carl’s Jr. employee out of an abortion. Gay rights groups dubbed his hamburgers “bigot burgers” after Karcher supported a 1978 proposition that would have allowed school boards to fire teachers who were gay or advocated homosexuality.

4. White Castle - White Castle joins Carl’s Jr. on the list of beloved burger joints with right-wing ties. According to a recent ThinkProgress report about companies that have helped bankroll right-wing attack ads, White Castle has given $25,000 to the Congressional Leadership Fund super PAC, a group linked to House Speaker John Boehner that is supporting conservative candidates in the November election.

5. Waffle House - Waffle House (or Awful House as I used to call it growing up) is also mentioned in the ThinkProgress report. The breakfast joint has given $100,000 this election cycle to the Karl Rove super PAC American Crossroads. Mother Jones’ Tim Murphy reported on the donation:

7. I was puzzled about Domino's

They accurately mention Tom Monaghan as its founder, but he sold it in 1998 (to Bain Capital!). The article should say something about its current owners.

10. It's not intended to inform.

It's intended to outrage.

Same for "Karcher, who died in 2008, had been a supporter of anti-abortion causes for decades." Probably used dividends for the last number of years of his life when he was retired and just owned part or most of the company. Perhaps he was in Depends and demented. Hard to know. But because we're authentically enraged and outraged over something, let's kick the current shareholders and employees because of what some guy, now dead, last did at least 5 years ago. Let's all kick the living while shouting, "I'm glad you're dead!" Could talk about current corporate policies, current shareholders, but no. That's information that might not have a liberal bias and all Phakts (tm) shall have a liberal bias.

I live up north so we don't have Waffle House up here, but I'll be sure to avoid White Castle.

It's really a shame because I love eating those little burgers, to be honest. But I can't in good conscience continue eating there knowing that they fund hate groups linked to the Republican Party.

In related news: http://religion.blogs.cnn.com/2011/02/07/7-religious-companies-besides-chick-fil-a/

This is also good information. I for one refuse to patronize any store on that list other than Whole Foods.

5. White Castle surprised me

But that said I won't be going to any of these places and Dominoes Pizza tastes like cardboard.

good information.

Folks, we need to educate everyone on these issues.

These capitalists only understand dollars. Let's at least deprive them of ours.

On edit: I don't think having religious beliefs is a reason for me to not patronize places, but if those beliefs are used to spew bigotry and hate, well then, they don't get my business.

8. Seriously? White Castle 25K

How cheap is that,. I think we have to keep in perspective the amount they give as well., Man, it probably costs more for Romney's shoes.
