Star of Romney ‘My Hands Didn’t Build This’ Ad Received Millions in Government Loans and Contracts

http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2012/07/star-of-romney-my-hands-didnt-build-this-ad-received-millions-in-government-loans-and-contracts/

. . .

The Romney campaign, has suggested that the president was telling business owners that they didn’t create their own business, taking the “If you’ve got a business – you didn’t build that” remark out of context.

In a campaign ad, the Romney campaign spliced out the “roads and bridges” the president seemed to be referring to as “that” when he said “you didn’t build that.”

In a new TV ad, Romney features an offended New Hampshire businessman, saying, “My father’s hands didn’t build this company? My hands didn’t build this company? My son’s hands aren’t building this company?”

The New Hampshire Union Leader’s John DiStato today reports that in 1999 the business in question, Gilchrist Metal, “received $800,000 in tax-exempt revenue bonds issued by the New Hampshire Business Finance Authority ‘to set up a second manufacturing plant and purchase equipment to produce high definition television broadcasting equipment’…” In addition, in 2011, Gilchrist Metal “received two U.S. Navy sub-contracts totaling about $83,000 and a smaller, $5,600 Coast Guard contract in 2008…”

4. K&R

The businessman, Jack Gilchrist, also acknowledged that in the 1980s the company received a U.S. Small Business Administration loan totaling “somewhere south of” $500,000, and matching funds from the federally-funded New England Trade Adjustment Assistance Center.

“I’m not going to turn a blind eye because the money came from the government,” Gilchrest said. “As far as I’m concerned, I’m getting some of my tax money back. I’m not stupid, I’m not going to say ‘no.’ Shame on me if I didn’t use what’s available.” link

- By my count he's ''partaken'' of $1,388,600 of that vile-libral-gubmint money that he hates so much. You can buy some nice bootstraps with that kinda money.......

8. Yep. Dunning-Kruger Strikes Again!!!

''The Dunning-Kruger effect is a cognitive bias in which unskilled people make poor decisions and reach erroneous conclusions, but their incompetence denies them the metacognitive ability to recognize their mistakes. The unskilled therefore suffer from illusory superiority, rating their ability as above average, much higher than it actually is.....''

- Between Dunning-Kruger and American Exceptionalism, it's a wonder we can still function as a country at all.......

9. Time for the Obama Truth Squad to swing into action

Run an ad featuring this yo-yo's anti-government quotes and then cite his record of sucking on the government teat. "Liars for Romney"

14. Even drudge is pounding Rmoney...

http://www.drudge.com/news/159278/romney-ad-star-got-government-loans

You just knew it would be something like this from the Rmoney campaign team of Lloyd Christmas and Harry Dunne.

This is awesome. Over $1 million in government loans and support and this guy thinks he's a self-made man.

"...couldn't have built his business without all the help and infrastructure provided to him thanks to taxpayers."
It interesting how many "self made men" forget that they didn't have to build their own roads and stuff.

"If you have not run a business you have no idea."
my pops runs a biz.. and stuff was just as f'd in 2007 if not worse. and the new tea party govnah in maine has made it worse even though he promised he would make it better.

"You didn't build that"
so who built the roads you use to get to market?
so who built the airports you use to get to market?
so who built the internet you use to get orders and expand business?

I run a business. I am located in a development zone so I get tax credits for hiring. I have used the state court system to enforce contracts. I and my employees travel to work on a federal highway, county, state and city roads. I travel to conferences and client meetings and use the FAA. Me and my employees went to college with federal and state loans, grants and tuition assistance programs. My clients that pay my fees do so by doing work for government entities.

To say that none of what government does helped my business grow would be blissful ignorance.

16. Pitiful

Is that easy to unmask this stuff? Sheesh. What are they doin over there at RMoney headquarters? Maybe the strategy is to bungle so many things early that Obama won't be ready for some skillful manueverin just before the election. I mean there's gotta be some strategy, right?
