Forty-something years ago, Annamary Fox was a registered nurse in the operating recovery rooms of a Detroit hospital.
What she saw led her to leave the Catholic Church.
What she saw led her to testify at public hearings.
What she saw has never left her, not in forty-something years.
She watched women die.
They had been butchered in shoddy abortion operations and showed up at the hospital suffering from infections too severe to treat. Her hospital treated them anyway. But when she spoke at hearings in favor of legal abortions, she did not use the name of the hospital for fear of reprisals against her employers.
