If It’s Sunday, It’s Meet The Republican White Men - image

An exhaustive new study by media watchdog Fairness & Accuracy in Reporting shows that the Sunday morning talk shows have been dominated over the last eight months by white, Republican men.

Between June 2011 and February of this year, 70 percent of all one-on-one interviewees on the four biggest political talk shows — NBC’s Meet the Press, ABC’s This Week, CBS’s Face the Nation and Fox News Sunday — were Republicans. The numbers were even more lopsided in favor of men and white guests:

2. Yes, it is bullshit! And the last paragraph says ...

" ... Across all four shows over the eight month period, there were just 36 appearances by women during one-on-one interviews compared to 228 men. And of those 36, 17 were Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN). Meanwhile, there 242 appearances by white guests, compared to just 15 by African-Americans (seven of those being Hermain Cain), four by Arab-Americans, and three by Latinos."

So, basically almost HALF of the of the Women and African-American one-on-one interviews were snagged by REPUBLICANS Bachmann and Cain.

Grrr.

Finally, a reason to watch them vs. the better programming that is on opposite them (pro wrestling reruns from the 1950s)

8. Its probably based on ratings.

Thats who the audience of those shows want to see. The largest portion of the audience of those shows are republican white men.

Tv is about ratings and money. It they got higher ratings with women and minorities, they'd be the guests

Too bad the networks and cable "news" outlets don't take their journalistic responsibility more seriously than that.

13. The fact that the R primaries were contested and D ones not partly accounts for the 70 percent

The Republican primary was pretty much the number one 'horse race' story in the time period examined. I'll bet the figure was a little bit lower four years ago.

As for the other two figures, many of the most prominent figures in our poltiical class are either white, male, or both.

17. Well, just look at Congress

The House is 83 percent white, the Senate 96 percent. Combined they are roughly 85 percent white. That's not all that far from 92 percent.

The House and Senate are both 83 percent male. That's very close to 86 percent.

http://thisnation.com/congress-facts.html

While I don't have data for the punditocracy, they seem to me to be quite heavily white and male as well, especially the prominent ones who get invited to the talk shows.

Congresspeople and pundits are a pretty high percentage of the Sunday talk guests.

As for the Republican figure, again, I believe part of that has to do with the primaries being the big horse-race story in the period examined. Probably doesn't account for all of the discrepancy, but I imagine it accounts for some of it. All of the candidates made the rounds many times over.

18. impossible to overstate the importance of this. This should be brought up all over the web!

THis is why so much attention is being directed to deficit reduction over building the economy (the only way it really can be done - by reinvigorating the middle class) with deficit reduction not forgotten but not achieved at the expense of our economy and nation. In Sept of 2010 300 Economists and community leaders warned Obama to not sacrifice job creation and growth in the name of austerity and deficit reduction.

Corporate media is helping the Corporate Lobbyists in Congress to push cutting social programs and calling it 'dealing with the deficit'.

recommended, RECOMMENDED!!!
