Chelsea Clinton at a Loss For Words Over Trump's Black History Month Speech

Clinton was quote tweeting Daniel Dale of the Toronto Star, who tweeted a transcript of the speech. While Clinton didn’t say exactly what irked her, it’s not too difficult to discern. After opening the speech with the usual generic platitudes, Trump started complaining about the Inauguration Day tweet by Time Magazine’s Zeke Miller where Miller mistakenly thought a bust of Martin Luther King Jr. had been removed from the oval office:

Last month we celebrated the life of Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. whose Incredible example Is unique In American history. You read all about Dr. Martin Luther King a week ago when somebody said I took the statue out of my office. And It turned out that that was fake news. The statue Is cherished. It’s one of the favorite things – and we have some good ones. We have Lincoln, and we have Jefferson, and we have Dr. Martin Luther King. And we have other. But they said the statue, the bust, of Dr. Martin Luther King was taken out of the office. And It was never even touched. So I think it was a disgrace, but that’s the way the press is. It’s very unfortunate.

Miller quickly apologized when it turned out that the bust had been behind either a door that opened into the office or a Secret Service agent the whole time. While White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer immediately accepted the apology on Twitter, he and Trump have since used it as an example of “fake news” put out by the “opposition party” media.
