After massive crowds at women's marches, what's next?
JANUARY 23, 2017 NEW YORK AND WASHINGTONWhen Anna Afshar started seeing all the Facebook posts about the Womens March on Washington last week, she was intrigued.
But when she arrived at her local protest in Indianapolis Saturday, she was shocked by the energy and turnout, and she left feeling newly inspired. About 5,000 people gathered with her in Indianapolis, joining an estimated 4 million others who marched in the nations largest cities on Saturday, protesting the inauguration of Donald Trump the day before.
I was amazed at the attendance, amazed at the turnout of our state, which is pretty conservative, says Ms. Afshar, an artist and mother who came to the United States 25 years ago from Russia and is married to a Muslim man. Especially the speakers who spoke at the march, they inspired me to do more than just talk on Facebook with friends. Now I regret I didnt take more time participating during the campaign.
Across the country, liberal-leaning Americans who attended Saturdays marches are still buzzing, many talking about the exhilarating sense of solidarity they experienced as well as newfound purpose to get more involved in politics.

Also - I hope folks aren't waiting for midterms and 'big huge' marches.
Every Wednesday our district is going to pummel Leonard Lance at his district offices.

(20,219 posts)I want to go check the local dem headquarters...I need to do something. Gotta push myself since I'm kind of a hermit. And I agree, local politics is the grassroots start.
I wish we had strategists like the neo-liberals (which really meant Ultra-Right Wing from the start) did 30 or more years ago.

(31,780 posts)My mom is in your area. Let me know. She will join you. I'm from your area originally. Send a pm as I'm not on DU as much. She can bring the rural southwest towns folk to the table that are disgusted.

The Congressional Institutes 2017 Joint Republican Retreat will be held at the Loews Philadelphia Hotel from Wednesday, Jan. 25 to Friday, Jan. 27.
AND, they have a "10 actions for the first 100 days" campaign. Info about that is on the Women's March website (https://www.womensmarch.com).
Delaware has started a group like "Emily's List", but just for Delaware politicians. They're also holding letter/postcard writing parties. The first is this weekend, and they've created a new group "Delaware Women for Inclusion" to define and address issues in DE.
