TTIP Talks Are 'Likely To Stop', Say Officials, As François Hollande Signals France Will Reject Deal

Talks over the hugely controversial Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership agreement could be about to fail after France threatened to block the deal.

Paris officials have said negotiations between the US and EU are "likely to stop" amid significant disagreements between the two sides over the free-trade agreement.

President Hollande has said he will "never accept" the deal in its current guise because of the rules it enforces on France and the rest of Europe - particularly in relation to farming and culture – claiming they are too friendly to US business.

“We will never accept questioning essential principles for our agriculture, our culture and for the reciprocity of access to public markets,” Hollande is reported as saying at a meeting of left-wing politicians in Paris. “At this stage France says ‘No.'”

... this doesn't say France will not ever go along with it, it says "at this stage we will not go along with it." I hope and pray they cannot be bought with some trinket, that they will stay true to the French people.

Also, when PO was on his way to see Angela Merkel a couple weeks ago, didn't 70,000-90,000 German people show up in the street the day before he got there to protest the TTP trade agreements?

Do the French people or the German people, or even the American people get to vote on these trade agreements? No

We're fucked.

stories such as this that lead those in opposition to think they can let up on their opposition. Then, quietly, it is sneaked onto the agenda and quickly passed in the dead of night before you realize it's still alive.

should ask the workers organizations in all those countries to lead it. Get rid of the corporate deals and work on deals that will help all of the worlds workers.
