Mark Morford: Feel the Bern or Give 'em Hill, but please chill out
http://blog.sfgate.com/morford/2016/02/10/feel-the-bern-or-give-em-hill-but-please-chill-out/Let me be clear: Im thrilled that Sanders won New Hampshire. Im thrilled that Hillary will be the (likely) nominee. Im thrilled that the GOP continues to eat itself alive. I have no problem with all these statements being true, simultaneously, in turns, over and over again. But maybe thats just me. . . .
Whos the better candidate, really? More skilled? More electable? Stronger on policy? More revolutionary? Not the point. Not this column. From where I sit and I dont care who knows it, both are terrific, hugely intelligent, enormously flawed, historically unique, fascinating candidates, for widely different reasons and some not so different at all. Their voting records in the Senate are nearly identical. Both have put forth multiple excellent, bold policy proposals, also exceedingly similar, often varying only in degrees of No Way In Hell Will This Ever Happen. Either one will serve us well, with multiple caveats and in very different ways.
. . .
Lets not get carried away. I am no HRC apologist. I do not yet feel the Bern. Theyre both brilliant. Theyre both totally insane. Theyre both great for the Democratic party overall. Support whichever you like. Get passionate. Be critical. Be less furiously certain you know what you think you know that would certainly help.
But when one gets the nom, get over your sour disappointment ASAP and support him/her with all youve got not merely because either one will be strange, fascinating, transformative president, but also because the alternatives are so toxic and repugnant as to be threatening to all of human life as we know it. I mean, holy hell. Isnt it obvious?

These are important questions! Choose your candidate wisely.
We have more than one job. Now is the time to shape future policy. The dem debates are important as the issues are coming under public examination. Both candidates are evolving in their positions.
I want them to keep growing before the choice is made.
What should be addressed now is the lack of civility between some of their supporters.

(12,809 posts)I was speaking more about the general election. EITHER Dem candidate is yooogely closer to the complete set of values and priorities each of us hold dear than ANY of the Republicans.
And, yeah, the contempt on display around here is maddening and sad.

(314 posts)I'm going to put two signs n my yard and two bumper stickers on my car - one for Bernie and one for Hillary. These are the only two choices the electorate has this year.
