Christie watches Cowboys lose, then takes some ribbing from GOP rivals

Source: The Record, NorthJersey.com

There was the not-so-subtle ribbing from Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker and jokes that the referee who took away Dallas’ chance to tie the game should avoid the George Washington Bridge.

Then Rep. Paul Ryan offered to give Governor Christie a hug, a jab at the governor’s awkward embrace of Cowboys owner Jerry Jones in Dallas a week ago.

While the Dallas Cowboys and Green Bay Packers were going at it on the field, there was also a more subtle political game being played on social media. Christie is openly considering running for president in 2016, and Walker and Ryan are also seen as potential contenders.

Christie entered Lambeau Field upbeat and optimistic Sunday afternoon, posing for photos on the field before heading to Jones’ box to watch the game. But whatever “mojo” Jones thought Christie’s lucky orange sweater held, it wasn’t enough to see the Cowboys advance to the NFC Championship in Seattle.

Cute article, but even more important was this further down:

Christie left the stadium without a win and without any face time on television. And while his team is out of the playoffs, the controversy over Christie’s acceptance of gifts from Jones is far from over.

The same liberal group that filed a complaint with the state ethics commission last week arguing that Christie should not have allowed Jones to provide him luxury suite seats to three Cowboys games and fly his family to last weekend’s game in Dallas against the Detroit Lions, accused the governor of extortion Sunday.

Of course, there was the always obligatory shot at Hillary Clinton, as though she was involved:

The American Democracy Legal Fund, led by the president of a political action committee with ties to Democrat Hilary Clinton, on Sunday released a letter that it sent on Friday to U.S. Attorney Paul Fishman....

The bottom line (now called the "takeaway", which I hate!!) is that Christie has been taking gifts and "bribes" since he's been in office, and hopefully he's NOT going to get away with it. Maybe no jail time, but certainly not a presidential nomination.

Using it in the context of a football game is especially disrespectful.

Bad juju

This is a disparaging term created by white foreigners to describe the purported supernatural activity involved in indigenous West African spirituality.

....with definitions of the word, none of which indicating a negative connotation.

And the article you linked to could be seen as satire, too - he has a number of words that can be taken as "offensive", like angel food cake and devil's food cake (white / black) and many others.

Also in his list is this:

"Blackball, black-hearted, blackmail, blacklist, black market, black ops, black sheep, black hat/white hat, white lie - Need I say more?"

He even has a problem with the expression "Hip, hip, hooray"!

Seriously?

12. Associating the color black with negative things is part of a racist tradition

As it stereotyping West African religions in a crude fashion by applying terms like "bad juju" to the results of a football game.

Even if the phrase itself is not racist, it certainly does not respect the cultural traditions for which "juju" is something very real and significant.

But how about just not using the term "bad Juju" out of respect for the West African religious cultural traditions?

when they get into a pissing contest over who can be more anti-choice, anti-contraception, anti-feminism and on and on and on.

The awful truth will come out loud and clear and women all across the country will be so fed up and just plain mad that they'll wish they had never gotten into the race in the first place...
