City Link closure timing was disgraceful, says union
Source: The Guardian
A union has said the timing of an announcement that nearly 3,000 workers are facing redundancies over the holidays is disgraceful.
The RMT demanded urgent talks with the business secretary, Vince Cable, after it was revealed on Christmas Day that parcel delivery group City Link had gone into administration.
City Link, which has 2,727 employees, called in administrators from professional services firm EY after years of substantial losses.
The Coventry-based company, which is understood to count John Lewis among its largest clients, now expects numerous redundancies after no buyer could be found to bail it out.

(41,205 posts)They must have known this was on the cards, but strung their employees along at Christmas time (not to mention probably violating the Trades Description Act by selling customers a product that they knew they couldn't or wouldn't deliver on).
I hope the RMT REALLY raises a stink.

(14,737 posts)....the way that this has been managed has been pretty dreadful. Especially to do this over Christmas.
Never been too keen on City Link as there are plenty of other couriers offering better prices and better service. But even then they were still better then Yodel!
