GLOSTRUP, Denmark (Reuters) - Four men went on trial in Denmark on Friday accused of plotting a "Mumbai-style" attack on the offices of a Danish newspaper whose publication of cartoons of the Prophet Mohammad in 2005 outraged many Muslims.

The three Swedish citizens and one Tunisian pleaded not guilty to charges of terrorism and three of the four pleaded not guilty to illegal possession of weapons. Prosecutors have said they could face life sentences if found guilty.

They are accused of plotting to kill a large number of people in an armed attack on the offices of the daily Jyllands-Posten in Copenhagen's Town Hall square at the end of 2010 and with trying to terrify the population.

"It is our perception that an unknown number of people were to be killed by shooting," chief prosecutor Gyrithe Ulrich told TV2 News outside the courthouse before the trial began.

1. The four on trial are "cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed".

2. Any "religion" that promotes killing ain't no religion!

Why is there any respect shown for a radical faction of
any group that promotes killing other people?

And why doesn't the Muslim community let the radicals know
that they are not supported and should call themselves by
some other name so as not to put peacefull Muslims in a bad
light?

4. As a (lapsed) Christian, I could let radicals ...

... like Fred Phelps and his Westboro Baptist Church know that they are not supported and should call themselves by some other name so as not to put peaceful Christians in a bad light.

And that would accomplish? Well, nothing, because the radicals don't listen to anything but their own demons.

Same with Terry Jones and his Dove World Outreach Center and his "Burn a Koran Day". I'm sure there are many more.

6. As an individual, no but...

You could go to some group like the Interchurch Council and have them begin discussions
about what to do with a radical group that was tearing down the respect for your
religion and they could come to a group decision that the actions of the splinter group
were not suported by the council.

There are ways if one stops to think...

8. Have there been requests from what I guess

you might call 'good' Christians that the 'bad' ones call themselves something else so that no one confuses the two?

11. First, I think of Martin Luther

If I remember correctly, the Catholic church excommunicated him or some such and
so he started his own church and somehow he stayed alive.

I would think that some religious leaders in the U.S. would have some balls and
try to develop relations with the Islamic leaders and discuss similarities in goals
since they are now sharing the same space. Usually, there are relationships
between Ministers and rabbis and priests in an area just out of professional
courtesy.

Maybe the Muslims are supposed to shun all infidels.
I don't have an answer to this at the moment.

10. I think all fundamentalists (or fanatics - religious or otherwise) suck

and do great damage to their particular causes. I find on this board that Islam gets a pass - it gets blamed on colonialism or some other such nonsense instead of blaming it on the individuals involved who are merely using excuses to get simple minded people to not judge them too harshly. Only Islam gets the moral relativism bullshit responses so prominent on this board. Christians get bashed daily on this board but Islam gets excuses. It's stupid.
