1. What the fuck. Earlier today I was talking about the recent Sumatran earthquake...

....with my girlfriend and I said something like "Yeah, can you believe it's been a little over a year since Fukushima happened?" and she shot back "Happening. Happening. It's still happening."

It's still happening.

3. That's odd, because this article from KFB Fukushima Broadcasting has a different story

Here is a summary of the Japanese article (dated about 6 hours ago, at 11:32 Japan time):

Temporary cooling equipment for the spent fuel pool of No. 4 automatically shut off on the 12th, Japan time. It shut off again after that , but TEPCO said that there was no dramatic increase in temperature and was investigating the cause of the shutdown.

According to TEPCO, there was an alarm about water leaking from temporary cooling equipment for the spent fuel pool of No. 4 at around 2:44 p.m. on the 12th, and the pump automatically shut off.

The inability to cool continued into the morning of the 13th. According to TEPCO, the temperature of the pool at the time of the cooling equipment shutdown was 28 degrees C, but only rose 0.5 degree C or so per hour after that, so there has been no dramatic increase in temperature.

4. Meanwhile: Feds confirm Nebraska nuclear plant fire was MAJOR

...so, the corporate nuclear wankers were lying to Americans all along about the nuke plant in our heartland.

12. Lying? They were just trying to keep us calm.

They don't want any commotion that might actually force them to either tell the truth or make up even bigger whoppers. It's all about keeping the public in its place. Keeping us quiet.

It's like a schoolroom.

The powers that be (No, I don't know who they are or how anybody as stupid as they are got to be so powerful) just want to keep us quiet and out of trouble so that they can look good to their supervisors (No, I don't know who they are, but I suppose each of us has internalized one somewhere along the way).

It's all for our own good of course. They are keeping us safe from the terrorists and troublemakers, so we each need to just keep to our seats with our hands folded on the desk in front of us and pay attention.

And, of course, if they are rich, it proves that they know what is best for everyone.

8. The last thing we need to do is build more of these

Our money and time would be better spent on finding the courage to shut them down. With our manufacturing base mostly gone I would think that this would be the perfect time to say this is a failed experiment and to do the right thing and start the process of getting rid of them.

9. Found an update that seems to indicate it is Reactor 1 and not the SFP of Reactor 4

UPDATE: Matsumoto was speaking about the Reactor 4 Spent Fuel Pool, and mentioned the temperature. I took to mean the temperature of the SFP, but it is more likely that Matsumoto suddenly switched back to talking about the temperature of the Reactor 1 dry well. Sorry for the confusion. A lot of viewers apparently thought Matsumoto was talking about the Reactor SFP like I did.

So, it was the Reactor 1 dry well temperature that started to rise noticeably starting 4AM on April 13, 2012.

No word yet on exactly what the temperature is in the Reactor 4 SFP.

7 EARTHQUAKES TODAY: http://enenews.com/just-in-7-quakes-hit-same-area-near-fukushima-daiichi-includes-m5-2-within-the-hour

Title: TEPCO finds 35-ton machine fallen in Fukushima No. 3 spent fuel pool
Source: Kyodo
Date: April 13

The operator of the crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant on Friday found that a 35-ton machine had dropped inside the spent fuel pool of the No. 3 unit, possibly because of a hydrogen explosion that occurred in the early stage of plantís nuclear accident last year.

One photo showed part of the machine, originally located above the pool and used to insert and remove fuel, appeared to have dropped onto the nuclear fuel storage racks.
