Rick Perry: Presidential Campaign's 'Not an IQ Test'

Last edited Thu Dec 11, 2014, 04:24 PM - Edit history (1)

Source: NBC News

AUSTIN, Texas — Texas Gov. Rick Perry says life experience is more important than book smarts in a president, telling NBC News he's not the same candidate who ran in the Republican primaries in 2012 and that he can win the White House in 2016.

"Running for the presidency's not an IQ test. It is a test of an individual's resolve. It's a test of an individual's philosophy. It's a test of an individual's life's experiences," Perry said in an interview at the Governor's Mansion, which he's leaving as his term ends. "And I think Americans are really ready for a leader that will give them a great hope about the future."

Perry said he probably has less "margin for error" after he famously couldn't remember one of the federal agencies he said he'd ax during a November 2011 Republican debate. But "I think, over the course of the last two years, people realize that what they saw in 2011 is certainly not the person they're looking at at 2013, 2014, 2015," he said.

Perry also said he'd have no problem convincing Republicans that he can win in 2016, saying potential backers "are pouring in here to sit down with us, to talk to us."

This is the same guy that almost flunked out of animal husbandry from an agricultural university. Way to go Gov. Goodhair for actually pitching the idea that electing day-old-dog-shit stupid Texas ex-governors is a great idea. At least he proves once and for all that anti-intellectualism and garden variety stupidity are considered virtues by his rube constituency.

The ONLY thing Perry's governorship proves is how fucking STUPID Texans are. I'm not whitewashing the whole state with stupid - there's some smart folks under the Lone Star. But there's obviously a predominance of dumb shits if they put this rube in charge.

Blood Alcohol content. I saw this interview. Only Perry could answer a question about how smart he is with an answer that admits and shows how stupid he is.

But my general rule is: if a guy looks and acts like he enjoys the taste of library paste in his spare time, he's not a good candidate for President. And you, Rick? You've gone past the library paste and are now chugging paint thinner.

He's probably right that rich backers mean more than IQ. As evidence I present George W. Bush.

Pretty please even. You will make it so much more entertaining to watch the debates with your aw shucks act. I do think you will find that while we don't need a genius to be president, we do need someone who can actually think and not just spit out pre-approved corporate lines.

At least Dubya was smart enough to pack an electronic version of Rove's hand up his back during his debates.

2000-2008 made it painfully obvious. Rick Perry seems to be a bit late to the party as usual.

Bush set a new low, (hopefully the lowest ever to happen to the USA), but then there's all those Republican wanna-be's who will run for Prez into their seventies... sort of like Harold Stassen, ... anybody here remember him? He was one of the good guys compared to Governor Perry, Palin, Walker, et all.

Isn't one ignorant former TX Governor as President more than enough? Why should we have to suffer through another?

The last one brought us 9/11, two unfunded wars, the financial collapse, and torture.

I think we've had enough of ignorant former TX governors.

BTW, Perry, if you're floating this as a trial balloon for your campaign - it popped.
