Update: World Financial Center in New York being evacuated because of suspicious package

A World Financial Center building in New York City, across the street from the World Trade Center, is being evacuated because of a suspicious package, police said.

A private security guard said he thought he saw something suspicious while screening a package at 2 World Financial Center, NBC News reports.

A New York Police Department bomb squad is at the building and police are investigating.

According to Reuters news service, New York City Police Department spokesman Paul Browne said the evacuation was prompted after an X-ray of a package appeared to reveal a grenade.
