59. Florida has a law called 10-20-Life
Zimmerman will probably plead to a lesser charge and get 10 years plus 10 years probation. From there he will come back in a year and get his sentence reduced to five years. His lawyers will have him back out on the street before the second anniversary of his original sentencing date. (It will be old news by then and no one will notice). Such is the American court system. |

|
There is NO decent lawyer worth his Constitutional salt that would knowingly and proactively defend George Zimmerman. If any lawyer volunteers or is paid for to defend George Zimmerman, I guarantee that his firm and office is SHAMED so much that disbarment would be his only option.
ONLY if a lawyer is appointed to Zimmerman will I hold back. Otherwise, I don't want to see a weasal 1%'er mouthpiece pushing racist, ignorant defense up the court's ass on this one. |

53. "VIGILANTE JUSTICE??"
|
Who's the vigilante here? That's a Hooptie...
PLEASE read what I have stated...that I don't want a high $$$ weasel coming in and defending this piece of work! And yes, defense lawyers, IF they aren't appointed by the court, DO have a choice in what clients to defend by the very basis of rates they charge. Let's fact it: the Zimmerman's do NOT have the bucks to afford a lawyer UNLESS racist wingnut gun groups offer to pay for it. To that end, the lawyer is FAIR GAME for our consternation and shame, and yes, public condemnation and boycott. NOW...and this is IMPORTANT!!!...IF an attorney is appointed, THEN it's hands off, as those attorneys don't have a CHOICE but to defend Zimmerman. At that point, he's FORCED to defend him to the best of his ability. And yes, I would never be a defense lawyer, because I would choose NOT to defend the indefensible. IN this case, it's a slam dunk that Zimmerman would be guilty of murder, and for me to try to get him off on a technicality would be akin to telling the African American community that THEIR rights are shit! Understand the difference, it is vital. |

55. Well, I guess we ll have to disagree.
|
If accused of a crime, we are guarranteed a fair trial, and to be represented by council. GZ is certainly within his rights to hire an attorney, whether pro bono or a high priced sleeze ball, or to have an attorney appointed to him. If we fail to accord the accused their rights we are advocating vigilantism.... which would lower us to the level of GZ. Yes, the system isnt perfect, but the results are far more likely to see justice served than if by lynch mobs.

52. As much as I despise what Zimmerman did ...
|
(From the very beginning I have found the murder of Trayvon Martin despicable and have taken it very personally)
All of those accused of a crime in this country deserve a vigorous and competent defense ... That includes Zimmerman. A defense attorney's job is to vigorously defend and protect the rights of their client ... any attorney that does NOT do this (to the best of his or her ability) for their client is an attorney that should be disbarred. With that said ... from the information we have .... Zimmerman needs to rot in prison ... despite the best efforts of competent representation. |

|
Once an attorney is forced to defend Zimmerman, than I have no complaints about his performance (other than obvious distractive court antics). But you know it, I know it, and reasonable people know it: Zimmerman is guilty of murdering a child, and racial elements must be chalked on to make this a death sentence enhancement (which can be done in this case, even though it's 2nd degree).
But, to a tee, you have agreed with my sentiment, and I appreciate that. |

Everyone in this country is entitled to a defense. Even the guilty are allowed an attorney. It is the basis of our legal system and is what anyone of 'Constitutional salt' would admire. To want to blackball or shame a lawyer who defends someone is wrong on many levels.

64. Well it should be 1st degree but better than manslaughter

Plus the feds need to bring up hate crime charges against Zimmerman.
Zimmerman is gonna do hardtime for a couple of decades but will escape the death penalty I suppose. Can't say the same for poor Trayvon..... |

72. A few points here
|
We need to not rest until this man is convicted and thrown in prison. We need to make sure Trayvon gets justice for Zimmerman's racism.
Fox News needs to be shut down. They don't even try to be fair. We need the Fairness Doctrine to lock their doors and shut them up for good. Finally it is way past time guns be outlawed. If no one had a gun, Trayvon woud be alive today. It is time to melt them down and jail anyone who has them. |
