Senate Hopeful Lee Whitnum Calls Opponent ‘Whore’ at Connecticut Debate

Source: Hypervocal.com

The Democratic primary race for four-term incumbent Joe Lieberman’s open Senate seat got ugly on Thursday night. One of the five candidates at the debate accused another of being a “whore.”

Lee Whitnum, a former software engineer and author from Greenwich, Connecticut, who has been accused by the Anti-Defamation League of being an “anti-Semite,” called out Rep. Chris Murphy for his unflinching support of Israel and the American Israel Public Affairs Committee lobby.

“I am dealing with whore here, who sells his soul to AIPAC, who will say anything for the job,” she said about Murphy in her closing statement. No article needed. Just whore.

Whitnum had been excluded from previous debates, but she sued for the right to appear on stage. This was the first such forum she’s in which she’s been allowed to participate.

It will be great to see when this woman deservedly loses the primary.

I just looked her up, she's quite a colorful character, used to date John Kerry. The "whore" thing doesn't bother me too much. If Chris Murphy (I never heard of him either) is owned by AIPAC or any lobby then it should be an issue in the campaign.

seat. Then we'd have two strong liberals from CT in the U.S. Senate! It would go a long way to remove the stain of Joe Lieberman on our state.

Anyone that puts a foreign lobby's, or foreign Country's interests ahead of the United States is automatically disqualified in my book. If that makes me anti-semitic, then I will wear the badge proudly. Personally I think it makes you Pro-American, your views may differ.

If what she says is true, she automatically goes into my plus column. Easy to say, I'm in New York, but we do have an AIPAC puppet of our own in the Senate.

Because that's how I feel about a United States Senator that would put Israel or any other country before the US. And I don't care what their religion is! If you want to call that ugly or anti-semitic, I will wear that badge proudly! You can call the truth ugly names, but it is still the truth.

You can put their religion above patriotism, but I will not.

47. Whitnum IS anti-Semitic

It isn't that she's "just" anti-Israel and "therefor" anti-Semitic. In her online writings she and a friend are careful to refrain from anti-Jewish rants. But in her *verbal* statements - publicly and otherwise - she is literally unable to control herself, clearly and repeatedly stating her bizarre fixed delusions that Jews "control the U.S. government" and indeed the whole world. And because she has plenty of time on her hands - and some money - she threatens to sue anyone who won't allow her a bully pulpit. She's a pox on the Democratic Party and should be pushed out of it; let her try to run as an "independent" if she really wants to continue to waste her time and money running for political office... preferably in Iran.

6. Well, she may well be an anti-Semite. Surely she was foolish to use such perjoratives, but...

Having long been concerned at the manner in which Lieberman walked that "fine line" of prioritizing support for Israel with that for the US--and convinced he not infrequently crossed it-- I think the issue is worth civil discussion.

I know nothing about this woman. She is stupid for the way in which she went about it and may be grotesquely anti-Semitic for all I know. But, I don't think that should place the issue totally off bounds. Israel's Likudists are determined to get us into a war with Iran. As we have seen with our other ill conceived ME wars, our Neocons are all too happy to use that as justification. Israel is certainly important, but I think it is wise to make sure US interests are first and foremost, IMO

9. Funny how Likudniks always play the anti-semite card when faced with opposition in the US ...

... when that opposition is FAR less vocal than they face in their own Knesset and in Israel generally. Neoconservatives seem to come from the same polluted end of the gene pool, no matter where they are spawned. I'll continue to adhere to the "reality-based" viewpoints as exemplified in Tikkun.

The capos offering Jews bars of soap as they entered the gas chambers were NOT being generous. We should be VERY cautious what we call "support."

He is young, smart, well spoken, hard working, progressive, and as far as I can tell, honest. This is a rare combination these days and I expect great things from Chris.

Does Media Whores Online ring a bell with anyone? Do you remember their Whore of the Year award? There are people who "whore" for industry, or for politicians, or for other groups--they sell their soul for lucre, in other words. If "whore" in this context is no longer acceptable here, well, ok. But when uttered or written in the way I've described, there's just not a sexual connotation to it.

13. Full of surprises!

Firstly I was shocked that this was a Democratic primary race.
Secondly I was surprised that this was a woman calling a man a whore.

I don't think that is appropriate language for a candidates debate, but their needs to be some discussion about the role of AIPAC and other like groups on our foreign policy, and of the anti-defamation league silencing said debate.
Having said that I don't know why they called her an "anti-semite" so it may have been appropriate, but it seems to me that the anti-semite lable is often applied with a really broad-brush.

she may have a good point, but it's forever lost in the fact that everyone is scrambling on the floor trying to snatch up their pearls because they clutched them too hard when she dropped the "W" bomb.

She is a strong critic of AIPAC, so she must be smeared as an anti-Semite.

She criticized AIPAC for its role in dragging us into the Iraq war crime.

She said the US should not have invaded Afghanistan.

45. Is that the royal "we"? In any case, glad to.

Her calling on Blumenthal to resign over AIG was nutty, dear. Her absurd lawsuit against Malloy was nutty- and of course it was dismissed. And then there's this batshit lawsuit:

In November of 2011 she filed a Federal lawsuit against the Town of Greenwich and Peter Tesei, First Selectman for allowing a Bar Mitzvah at the Town Hall citing the First Amendment Establishment Clause. Whitnum repeatedly approached the ACLU to take her case against the Town of Greenwich. In January of 2011 she finally received a rejection from the ACLU citing too much case load. In a press release Whitnum accused the ACLU of being a biased organization.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lee_Whitnum
http://www.greenwichtime.com/news/article/Town-Democrat-files-lawsuit-over-bar-mitzvah-at-2171280.php

And just what does she mean by accusing the ACLU of being biased?

Then there's this bit of nutjobbery.

25. Lee Whitnum vs. the Jews: Democratic Senate candidate blasts U.S. policy in the Middle East

As many members of Connecticut’s Jewish community see it, Lee Whitnum isn’t just anti-Israel, she’s antisemitic.
As Whitnum herself sees it, however, she’s simply “clear-headed and purposeful.”

Whitnum is one of six Democrats vying for the Senate seat to be vacated by Joe Lieberman at the end of the year.
An outspoken critic of AIPAC, the Greenwich resident has grabbed headlines with her unabashed proclamations against U.S. support of Israel and the policies of individual lawmakers. Many of her comments use blatantly anti-Jewish and anti-Israel rhetoric, though Whitnum and her supporters deny that she is antisemitic.

Whitnum has filed legal complaints against bloggers and politicians who claim that she is racist. A recent defamation lawsuit filed against Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy was thrown out last month in the Stamford Superior Court.

On Mar. 23, the Connecticut Democratic Party held its annual Jefferson Jackson Bailey Dinner at the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford. Outside the event, Whitnum and a group of some 20 supporters distributed a manifesto-type document addressed to “Democratic leaders.” Whitnum later entered the Convention Center to hand out copies of the screed. The Ledger later learned that several attendees lodged complaints with the Connecticut regional office of the Anti-Defamation League.

The manifesto targets Senators Richard Blumenthal and Joe Lieberman, accusing them of inappropriate and conspiratorial ties to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his policies.

http://www.jewishledger.com/2012/04/lee-whitnum-vs-the-jews-democratic-senate-candidate-blasts-u-s-policy-in-the-middle-east/

Anti-Defamation League: Whitnum used Anti-Semitic Language

We received a number of complaints about our interview with Democrat Lee Whitnum last week on Face the State. As a candidate for the U.S. Senate, we invited Whitnum on the program as we have every candidate competing for a party nomination.

Whitnum’s comments about Israel, on Face the State and in other venues, have led some to accuse her of being anti-semitic. In fact, Whitnum is currently suing Governor Dannel Malloy, alleging he called her an anti-semite. We asked the Anti-Defamation League of Connecticut to watch and analyze our interview, and here’s what the organization had to say:

In our opinion, Ms. Whitnum invoked anti-Semitic canards, including allegations of Jewish control and accusations of dual loyalty. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, ADL is strictly non-partisan, and does not endorse or oppose candidates for office.

You can watch the interview right here: http://dennishouse.wordpress.com/2012/02/24/whitnum-blasts-bysiewicz-and-murphy/

In addition to her lawsuit against Governor Malloy, Whitnum is also involved in other legal proceedings. Her case against the Norwich Bulletin is now in federal court to be heard today in New Haven. Whitnum is suing to be included in an upcoming Bulletin senate debate. Next week, Whitnum is due in court for a lawsuit she filed against the author of the My Left Nutmeg blog. She also filed lawsuits against Yahoo and the town of Greenwich.

http://dennishouse.wordpress.com/2012/03/01/anti-defamation-league-whitnum-used-anti-semitic-language/

Whitnum Blasts Bysiewicz, Murphy and Malloy

In her first television interview of the campaign, Lee Whitnum came out swinging against two of her fellow Democrats seeking the nomination for the seat currently held by Joe Lieberman. During a taping of Face the State, the lawyer and author from Greenwich was highly critical of Susan Bysiewicz and Chris Murphy.

On Bysiewicz, here is an excerpt of what Whitnum had to say: “I don’t like her at all. I think she is a card-carrying Israelist.” Is she running to make sure this Congress remains pro-Israel?”

As for Murphy:

“Chris Murphy pledged $30M to Israel over the next ten years……..We elected a young maverick kid and he just hasn’t done very much. He needs to be taken out of office.”

Whitnum hasn’t made many friends in the Connecticut Democratic Party. She is currently suing Governor Malloy, alleging he called her an anti-semite. In the interview, Whitnum said the governor (who has publicly talked about his dyslexia) can’t read. In the past she has called Senator Lieberman a traitor, and demanded Senator Richard Blumenthal resign.

http://dennishouse.wordpress.com/2012/02/24/whitnum-blasts-bysiewicz-and-murphy/

She will get some supporters.
