Nikki Haley: ‘Women Don’t Care About Contraception’

Source: Think Progress

HALEY: Women don’t care about contraception, they care about jobs and the economy and raising their families and all those other things–

BEHAR: Well, they care about contraception too.

HALEY: But, that’s not the only thing they care about. The media wants to talk about contraception.

BEHAR: But when someone like Rick Santorum says he’s going to take it away, we care. (Applause)

HALEY: Well, while we care about contraception, let’s be care. All we’re saying is we don’t want government to mandate when we have to have it or when we don’t.

Ours has been using his governorship as a three-year audition for the GOP-VP spot. He wants is SOOOOOO bad!

I think I should get bonus club points b/c we also have a largely imbecilic legislature including this doofus who thinks the trans-vaginal ultrasound makes HILARIOUS fodder for dirty-talkin' on the floor of the House-- complete with boom-chicka-boom background music! :

Not to mention our AG who should win "Wingnut of the Year" by a mile.

If we give Gubmint the right to tell us when we must be pregnant, then they might decide to tell us, and force us, when we can't be pregnant. Same thing with contraception. Keep contraception available for anyone that wants to use it.

Frankly, I wish all forms of it was safe enough and cheap enough to buy out of a vending machine.

Really?

"When we have to have it or when we don't?"

What a dumbass.

All the government is doing is saying this - IF you want birth control OR should you medically need it for health reason - it will be affordable.

allow them to control their own fertility. Studies have shown that this allows them to climb higher in the ranks and earn more money.

Also, the government is not forcing you to use birth control with a mandate. Don't believe in it? Don't take it.

And, yes, women care about this issue. Keep it up and I'm sure they'll make it clear just how much.

First... "Women don’t care about contraception."

Then... "[Contraception’s] not the only thing they care about."

Then... "Well... we don’t want government to mandate when we have to have [contraception] or when we don't."

Nice job helping Joy Behar make her point! Honestly, Haley should be the spokesperson for the Republican position on the issue of government in the OBGYN.

She's trying to backtrack, while at the same time trying to defend her party's war on women.

Pathetic. It's kinda sad watching these female republicans.

Oh well, this is what you get for a typical statewide officeholder in SC. Some of the absolute worst politicians in the country - and easily fooled voters in the country. A lot of nice people down here, but God the education level is LOW and the ignorance is astounding...

The thing that galls me about Haley is that most people knew she is unfit for the job before she was elected. Yet, they voted for her anyway--for the sole reason that she has an "R" after her name. And, folks wonder why theirstate is such a craphole. They must not have mirrors in their homes.

... that women with access to contraception statistically have a higher rate of employment or a higher level of income? Sorry, I don't remember the particulars... but it seems to me that access to contraception should be PART of one's overall "hey-let's-fix-the-economy" plan.

Many women take contraception because they cannot afford, due to their current economic situation, to get pregnant and have a child?
