Florida State investigating Jameis Winston, attorney says

Source: USA Today

Florida State is proceeding with a school investigation of Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Jameis Winston related to the alleged rape of a fellow FSU student in 2012, an attorney for the woman told USA TODAY Sports.

Florida State officials traveled to where the woman lives in early August to interview her for the first time since she reported the alleged assault to police in Dec. 2012.

"They assured us that the Title IX process was going to move forward," said John Clune, a Title IX attorney representing the woman. "The interview went pretty well. I think it was a positive experience, and everyone felt like the university was taking it very seriously."

Clune said the lengthy interview with his client gave FSU more information than it previously had from the Tallahassee police department investigation. He said FSU officials interviewed two other people but that he does not know if Winston has been interviewed.

due process? And Southern "justice" with regard to young African American men has a history of inaccuracy.

An allegation has been made - by all means investigate. But DU isn't the place to presume guilt.

11. The evidence is convincing enough. But it doesn't mean the authorities will get the case right.

I am convinced Jameis got away with it. Race doesn't matter here.

I certainly don't need you to tell me about "Southern 'justice' with regard to young African American men."

I think you might consider rape culture, and the obscene frequency with which rape survivors are chastised, belittled, and blamed for the rape they've survived.

I live in the deep South, and I have been an advocate for survivors of relationship violence (including rape) for more than thirty-five years. I don't think I need to add the codicil "if he's guilty."

I hope he faces serious consequences. It's about time!

Seems like it should be easy to prove if it's on tape.

From what I have read the sex act was recorded on a smart phone, the phone was later either lost, or destroyed.

would get if convicted. It should be neither more nor less because they are jocks. Equal treatment under the law is a two way street.

It almost seems as though the powers that be were holding off as long as they possibly could on doing any kind of serious investigation.

He was a backup freshman QB. He hadn't even been on the practice field, and was expected to be way behind Coker in the starting lineup. They, both FSU and the cops, had no reason to cut the guy slack because he was awesome at football.
