India parents 'reject newborn girl for baby boy'
Source: BBC
A newborn Indian girl has been left unwanted as her presumed parents seek custody of a baby boy handed to them by mistake, officials say. The two babies were born on the same night in a hospital in the western Indian city of Jodhpur a week ago. The couple refused to accept the girl after accidentally being given the boy, who belongs to another couple, the hospital says. Indian society has a long history of discrimination against girls. The pair, Poonam Kanwar and her husband, Chain Singh, have rejected the findings of a blood test suggesting that the girl is theirs, officials at the Umaid Hospital said. Instead, they are fighting a couple identified by the hospital as the male baby's parents for custody of the boy. Read more: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-17587284

don't. Never mind - but nice try invoking old history as a substitute for present reality. Tell us again the last time British rule was in effect?
Oh, and Britian's Head of State is...not a white male, not for last 60 years. |

I am direct quoting a song title. If I were directing the word "nigger" at an individual, then that would be offensive and absolutely deserving of removal.

2. The headline seems to be sensationalizing it
|
Yes, it's an artifact of a sad cultural phenomenon, but if you read the whole story all they're asking for is a DNA test to prove the hospital's assertion that the earlier thing was actually a mistake. I don't see how they can be faulted for that.

If the parents really believe the boy is their son and the DNA proves he is not, their actions will be the judge.

9. I don't blame the parents for wanting a DNA test first.

The hospital made a mistake with the babies and now the parents are supposed to trust them with blood test results? I don't know why they didn't conduct DNA tests in the first place rather than blood tests.

Unless she was unconscious isn't it standard practice to announce "it's a boy/girl!" when the baby is born everywhere?

21. You have overlooked the selective abortion of female fetuses in China.
|
There are (at least) 32 million more boys than girls in China. In 2001, 117 boys were born to every 100 girls.
So apparently behavior like this does work. Ugly business...it's a side of abortion on demand that is rarely discussed. |

I fully support abortion on demand, by the way, so curb your dog. I hope to see it used wisely. What was done in China was not wise. |
