Wisconsin Governor Walker to face recall vote June 5

Fri Mar 30, 2012 11:24am EDT

MILWAUKEE (Reuters) - Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker will face a recall election on June 5 over a new law he championed that strips public sector unions of most power, becoming the first governor to face a no-confidence vote in nearly a decade.

The five-member Wisconsin Government Accountability Board, which manages elections, voted unanimously on Friday to certify more than 900,000 signatures calling for Walker's ouster, formally setting in motion the recall election.

A Democratic primary will be held on May 8 to choose Walker's opponent in the recall vote. The Democrat most likely to face Walker is Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett in a rematch of the 2010 election, narrowly won by Walker, although Barrett has not yet formally entered the race.

4. Where have you got 'lieutenant governor' from?

Walker is the governor. This has set the date for the election, now that the necessary signatures have been verified.

6. the taxpayers who signed the petition obviously think it's worth it

If I recall correctly over 1 M signed - though evidently not quite that many certified. One can only suppose you have not been following Wisconsin very closely this past year.

7. Unfortunately Mr. Walker chose not to represent his constituency. He costs the tax payers money.

It is in their best interest to remove him from office an install someone who has character, who does not employ deception as one of his options in his "playbook". We do not need someone who is more then willing to polarize his state to please his masters following the ALEC agenda.

Contrary to how the republicans perceive politics. This is not a game

It's quite simple really.

If you take the time to actually research it.

And may I say..... a hearty welcome to DU.

8. Hi ZymZym!!!

Welcome to Democratic Underground!

Now they're going after Lt. Gov. Walker! man, don't these people EVER give up?!?!?

you want the short answer? NO!

- "That's right- we NEVER GIVE UP!!!"

- "Whoo hoooooooo!"

5. Here's hoping for a significant mobilization of Dem voters to toss this dangerous clown out!

This would be an incredible victory and statement if it can be done. Kick and REc.

12. Step 1

Remember...this is step 1. Step 2 is the actual election.

Expect much more winger money and other shenanigans up until election time.

13. They are already trying. However, we are now onto the business of registering voters

I had to miss the training in my town last night, but will try to do it somewhere else. They made it harder. You have to "learn" to register voters in EACH municipality. So if I can register voters in Madison, I would not be able to register voters in Milwaukee without a separate training.

The thing is, over 30 people showed up for training in my town last night (without me unfortunately). And they've already signed up for shifts to register people at pre-determined locations. We kept track of the eligible voters who signed the recall petitions who are not registered voters.

I suspect we are not the only group to have done this.

If we can register people and get them to the polls, we will win no matter how much money they spend.
