Politicos live stream of an interview with Dick Cheney and his family cut to black on Monday just as a protester with handcuffs accused the former vice president of being a war criminal.
Host Mike Allen began the Politico Playbook event by asking Dick Cheney, his wife Lynne, and his daughter Liz if they talked about politics at home.
After Lynne Cheney took a jab at Hillary Clinton by saying that she was not dead broke when her husband was nominated for vice president in 2000, Liz Cheney complimented her parents for involving their children in politics from an early age.
About that time, someone in the audience began to yell that Dick Cheney was a war criminal, which caused Lynne Cheney to chuckle.
Four more years! Four more years! Liz Cheney shouted.

(13,992 posts)Had it turned out to be a nutcase with a gun, that's not something you want streaming on live video. Granted, it was an otherwise harmless protestor, but I think I would have done the same thing. Just in case.

(13,992 posts)if a situation is starting to turn south, you should shut off the live feed.

(7,672 posts)Just some smiling doofus with a microphone in front of a 4 star hotel somewhere yakking and yakking on a visual medium.
And then at the end of the video, Politico won't even own their action - "technical problems" horseshit.

(13,992 posts)It's called being responsible. If somebody is going to pull out a gun and start blazing away, we don't need the gore of it all broadcast live.
mbperrin
(7,672 posts)Yeah, we do need the gore. We need the flag-draped coffins. We need the bodies of children piled high.
THEN and only then, can we see the consequences of our current behavior.
Any comment on them pretending it was "technical difficulties" rather than an edit of live TV? Why do you suppose they didn't just say what you did? - that "we were afraid there would be gore, and you don't need that?" Peculiar sort of lie, isn't it? Technical difficulties.

that said, I didn't see exactly what Politico did. Raw Story sometimes gooses their stories up.

(7,672 posts)The one female protester was so far away that you can't even make out her face, and daughter Cheney thought it was amusing enough to yell "Four more years!" back.
Glad to see that Dick appears to be slipping - slurred speech, slumped posture, twisted upper torso.
And then the chickenshit voiceover at the end that "technical problems" were involved in the feed.
Never much cared for Politico before, and now I'll never use anything from them again.

(8,812 posts)Politico is owned by Allbritton Communications. The Allbritton family recently sold off a number of TV stations to Sinclair and once owned the notorious Riggs Bank, where such inspiring symbols of democracy as the Saudi royal family and Augusto Pinochet had accounts.
Now that Ryan is gone, I'm no longer clear on who's setting the tone for Politico. Although I seriously doubt that they would undergo a dramatic shift in ideology, a full-fledged OP that relied on anything other than hunches and hearsay would require considerable digging.

(3,959 posts)to arrest former Vice-President Biden for murder?
Justified or just another case of partisan situational ethics? I hold that VP Biden is nor responsible, legally or morally for anything ordered by President Obama.
Presidents give orders directly to department and independent agency chiefs. Vice Presidents are not in any chain of command and, other than as acting President under the 25th amendment, can order nothing beyond a cup of coffee. Vice Presidents are not Deputy Commanders in Chief and their authority is limited to presiding over the Senate and their personal staffs.
Authority may be delegated. Responsibility cannot be.
aint_no_life_nowhere
(21,925 posts)I don't give a fuck whether Cheney was formally in the chain of command. He held de facto power in the White House. I don't think there's a single authority either in politics or journalism who would question that Cheney and his policies were the principal propelling force that took us into Iraq. Cheney was the guy calling the shots for George Bush, who knew very little about national office, from ordering George Bush to appoint John Bolton, from all out invasion in Iraq, to outing a CIA agent. You've got to be the only person I've read who doesn't acknowledge this and the fact he was the most influential vice president in the modern era. And are you comparing what Cheney did to what Biden could potentially be accused of because of what Obama has done? This is more than an issue of partisan politics. It's a moral debate over good and evil. I cannot believe you are trying to equate the Obama administration with the previous one regarding military action.
A good book for you to read would be one by two-time Pullitzer Prize winning New York Times journalist Holcomb Noble: "Cheney's War Crimes: The Reign of a De Facto President".
Sorry you don't like the fact I approve of people who speak out against Cheney at his public appearances. Nah, I'm not really sorry.

(17,621 posts)Of course Dick Cheney belongs in jail, along with the rest of the Bush regime. But this is just mindless posturing, and a waste of time, and does nothing for our side. I really don't blame politico for cutting the feed.

Gang, Dick is just plain evil. It's high time to take off the kid gloves and get our party dresses dirty.
God forbid anybody to say, "War Criminal," when really it's the only thing that should be said.
Thanks for nothing. Losers.
