Wolf wins Dems' nomination for Pa. governor
Source: Philadelphia Inquirer
Wolf, 65, ran well ahead of five-term U.S. Rep. Allyson Schwartz and state Treasurer Rob McCord, according to complete but unofficial returns. Katie McGinty, former state environmental secretary, trailed.
The winner will take on Gov. Corbett, a Republican, who was unopposed in his party's primary but has been yoked to low approval ratings and is listed by political analysts as the most vulnerable incumbent governor in the nation.
The victory testified to the enduring power of money. Wolf, owner of his family building-supplies company in York and a former revenue secretary in Democrat Ed Rendell's administration, pumped $10 million of his own cash into the race.

Two of the three losing candidates reach out to me personally for support, claiming that they could pull off a win. This is why I don't get involved in out of state Primaries.

Congrats to Tom Wolf and now let's get our state back!
Corbett must go.

(65,173 posts)The more I looked into it, the less difference I saw between the Democratic candidates. Schwartz actually has the best death penalty position. Wish she supported a higher tax on gas companies though. I am not crazy about how money influences elections, but wish Wolf good luck - please defeat Corbett!

(2,185 posts)Wolf took the initiative to define himself early.
Sadly, his opponents went negative, and spoiled the field.
The point is to take down Corbett, not other dems.
Yesterday I heard that if she loses the primary, Schwartz will
come out to oppose Toomey... that would work.

(7,237 posts)The other candidates were all fine, but drove me away with the negative campaign ads. Tell me why to vote for you, don't tell me why your opponent sucks.
I think Wolf could appeal to moderate Republicans and I feel great about our chances to eveicct that jackass Corbett from Harrisburg..
Wolf is a solid candidate. Having money doesn't automatically mean you suck.

(128,844 posts)but not just "advertising". He presented himself as not only a folksy "liberal" (former Peace Corps participant) but also an intellectual (Dartmouth undergrad, University of London grad, MIT PhD). His family's business appeals to the business indies and his family's long time presence in Central PA (the borough of Mt. Wolf is named for his great-great grandfather) helps to hold the eastside-westside combativeness at bay and cuts into the heart of Corbett's Central PA base area. As it is, the Central PA rethugs still haven't forgiven Corbett for Sandusky nor for the massive education cuts across the state while catering to his Marcellus buddies. And of course the ALEC agenda FAILs with the Transvaginal ultrasound "just close your eyes" and look the other way" demands, refusal to expand Medicaid for the ACA, and the most visible issue of Voter ID.
In any case, Corbett has to go!
