House votes to repeal key 'Obamacare' provision

Source: MSNBC

The House voted Thursday to repeal a central provision of the 2010 health care overhaul, the Independent Payment Advisory Board (IPAB).

The vote was 223 to 181, with seven Democrats voting with most Republicans to abolish IPAB. Ten Republicans voted against the effort to kill IPAB.

...snip

Thursday’s vote will have little more than a symbolic election-year effect since if the Senate were to vote on IPAB, Democrats have enough votes to keep it alive.

1. They spend lots of time on "symbolic" wastes of time, but they still haven't produced

a jobs bill.

6. That's not the saddest thing. The saddest thing about it is that they are allowed to get away

with it. The Corporate Media doesn't hold the Republican House's feet to the fire in terms of job creation bills.

But when the Democrats controlled the House and Senate, trying to pass these bills, the Corporate Media pooh-pooh'd what the Democrats were doing and played it down. The Democrats/Obama got no credit.

And to this day, the stimulus is still demonized and the so-called "journalists" and "pundits" in the Corporate Media have yet to credit the administration/Democrats for their accomplishments.

19. Yep. Can you imagine how things would be if at every interview and press conference

the media asked the Repukes about their jobs jobs jobs promise they made while running in 2010? We'd probably have some actual jobs bills!

23. Well, kind of...

Every Republican-written bill in this Congress is entitled "Repeal the Job-Killing (insert name of whatever they're trying to get rid of)."

7. Speaker Boner...

WHERE THE HECK ARE THE JOBS? You said that jobs were "job one," when you started your term as Speaker, yet you waste time on this garbage? We want jobs, and you and your cohorts will pay for not keeping to your "job one" promise to WE THE PEOPLE.

15. Boehner: "err, we're cutting government, taxes, and regulations, because they kill jobs..."

(never mind the non-stop job growth under Obama following the job losses under Bush's final year)

17. No. This is not the provision that limits the profits of insurance companies.

This is the provision that allows a board to limit payments for Medicare services. It is very bad for the most vulnerable in our society -- elderly seniors who can no longer work and need medical care. I would like to see that board and this provision go.

16. This is bad for seniors. I'm glad they voted against this provision.

The 2010 Affordable Care Act which created the board, says IPAB can’t ration care, restrict benefits, increase the premiums Medicare recipients must pay, or alter the eligibility for Medicare. But it can limit or change payments to doctors, hospitals, hospices, and other providers.

http://nbcpolitics.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2012/03/22/10812324-house-votes-to-repeal-key-obamacare-provision

If you limit payments, you ration care. One and the same thing.

18. re:House votes to repeal key 'Obamacare' provision

in all of my adult life i have never seen any republican candidate offer ;1 any jobs bill;. 2: any bill to gaurentee any pesornal freedoms. 4 : any comprehensive energy policy.5: constantly grow our war machine ( we have been at war with somone or other for 200 years . time to stop and turn off the war machine (get out ,completly get ouf of afganastand or any other pinanostan). 6: a comperiensive transportation policy.7: national health. these people constantly attack, bully , call names . bob and weave , go sputter sputt. I wont answer any questions , read about it in my book, i will only answer when i am elected, and so fourth. and when in office they only do favors for their friends , campaign doaners, and since when did we start in this centery panddering only to the 1% and forget the rest of us? note : without us , ther is no u.( jfk, christ . others )
