Bob McDonnell, Virginia Governor: 'War On Women' Is 'Political Theater

Source: Huffington Post

Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell (R) has drastically slipped in the polls after backing two controversial anti-abortion measures over the past several weeks: the fetal personhood bill and the mandatory ultrasound bill. But in an interview on CNN Tuesday night, he said the "War on Women" is something Democrats have invented.

"This 'war on women' argument is very unfortunate," he told John King. "It's false, and it's been the political theater for the Democrats for the past couple of months."

He continued, "Listen, if I had Obama's record on jobs, on spending, on debt and deficit, on energy, I would want to talk about something else, too. And, John, that's really what's going on. And it's just very unfortunate that this politics of division, separating men from women, rich from the middle class, continues to be the theme of this campaign."

If recent polling is any indication, Virginia voters disagree with McDonnell on this point. A Quinnipiac University poll released Wednesday shows that McDonnell's approval rating dropped a net 13 points in March to its lowest level since June 2011. The dip in support occurs in the month that McDonnell helped GOP legislators write a bill that requires women to have an ultrasound procedure at least 24 hours before having an abortion, even if the doctor deems it medically unnecessary.

The War on Women is something Democrats made up? Hmm...lets see...

THE REPUBLICAN DECLARATION OF WAR ON WOMEN:"We need you to come in and lock shields, and strengthen up the men who are going to the fight for you. To let these other women know on the other side — these planned Parenthood women, the Code Pink women, and all of these women that have been neutering American men and bringing us to the point of this incredible weakness — to let them know that we are not going to have our men become subservient. That’s what we need you to do. Because if you don’t, then the debt will continue to grow…deficits will continue to grow." ~ Republican Allen West, Women Impacting Nation Meeting, 04/25/2011

1. When repug legislatures and governors

attempt to ram-rod misogynistic laws into existence, that's pretty fucking far past 'political theater.'

2. Ah Bob ... one little question

Now how did Barack Obama make you publicly back unnecessary medical
procedures on women that were designed to shame them? Guess Obama's
Kenyan Vulcan Mind Meld trick is much stronger than I thought.

Bob you swam in the sewer and the stink on you is because of your actions
not the actions of President Obama.

4. Chis Matthews

Chris countered that silly argument yesterday saying that the Democrats must be pretty clever to get all the Republican legislators and governors to pass the same bills at the same time just so the Democrats could have an issue and call Republicans anti-women.

6. He was the one who raised the curtain.

Bob McDonnell, Wikipedia

Thesis

McDonnell's 1989 thesis for Regent University was a 93-page document titled The Republican Party's Vision for the Family: The Compelling Issue of The Decade. The document explored the rise in the numbers of divorces and illegitimate births, and examined public policies that may have contributed to that increase and proposed solutions. The document gained attention in the campaign because it outlined a 15-point conservative agenda, including 10 points McDonnell pursued during his years in the General Assembly, according to press analysis.
This agenda includes opposition to abortion, support for school vouchers and covenant marriage, and tax policies that favor heterosexual families. In his thesis, McDonnell wrote "government policy should favor married couples over 'cohabitators, homosexuals or fornicators.'" McDonnell "described working women and feminists as 'detrimental' to the family."

McDonnell "criticized a landmark 1965 Supreme Court decision" which legalized the use of contraceptives, writing that "man's basic nature is inclined towards evil, and when the exercise of liberty takes the shape of pornography, drug abuse, or homosexuality, the government must restrain, punish, and deter."

21. just damn....

then put laws in place that deal with the men, since they're the problem, and leave the women out of it.

7. So, I guess he's saying that the GOP should

do whatever it wants in regards to women's health and we should just sit down and shut up.

The reason it's being talking about is because THEY started passing legislation restricting access and control over our own bodies. I'm just surprised he hasn't accused women of being hysterical.

8. Yeah, just "political theater"

Can't imagine why the Democrats are making such a big deal about all this. The good old Republican boys don't mean anything by it, doncha know? Of course, when it's them on the receiving end of the full power of the state to affect their lives for the worse (which practically never happens), oh the humanity! What a hardship it would be for Paris Hilton to pay an extra three cents on the dollar in taxes for her "earnings" above a quarter million a year! Do we want all these wealthy people to go Galt, and deprive society of their matchless contribution?

created this unjust invasion into the decision women make regarding their bodies. You and your misogynistic friends created this "War on Women". You are going to lose big time in the next election. Bend over Gov. McDonald, I have a big probe for you.

15. Hypocritical projection

It's what the Repigs are best at.

The PHRASE "War on Women" is used by Democrats - however the DEEDS are done by the Republicans (which is why the phrase is being used) - and the Republicans started it, not coincidentally, when the economy started improving. Now they're projecting their own tactics and motives onto Dems and blaming Dems for them.

Typical Republican't M.O.

28. He is in need of some linguistic education. Theater refers to entertainment that is preformed by

actors. The War on Women is a bunch of politicians and preachers making real laws that govern the lives of others. What he is doing is theater - his objections to the truth are an act of theater - not real.

35. It's a one-act play for McDonnell.

No running-mate slot for him this year because he can't even deliver his own state, constitutionally limited to one term as governor, and he is probably doomed to lose to Mark Warner for Senate in 2014, if he doesn't lose to the racist football coach's son first.

Six million Virginia women no longer give a shit what that guy says or does, and never will again if anyone else is on the ballot. If he aims higher, he'll just have farther to fall.

But he is likely to be deserving of our thanks come November. It wouldn't be this easy without his brilliant help.
