Man throws fire bomb at Democratic state senator Wendy Davis’ office in Texas

By Eric W. Dolan
Wednesday, March 21, 2012 0:20 EDT

At least two fire bombs were thrown at the Fort Worth office of state Sen. Wendy Davis (D) on Tuesday night, according to the Star Telegram.

Davis was not in her office at the time, but some staff members were present. They used a fire extinguisher to put out the small blaze.

No one was injured in the attack, but the lawmaker’s office was damaged by the fire.

“It’s unfortunate when things like this happen in the public arena,” she said. “It reminds us of how important it is for us to remain very civil in our discourse and to work not to foment this kind of anger in our community as we discuss things that are challenges that we all face and care about.”

8. I believe this would qualify as political terrorism under the "Patriot Act".

The hard part is catching them with enough evidence.

20. Hush yer mouth...

You know that the patriot act is only for Muslims, people of color, and peace activists. How dare you suggest that it be used against passionate 'real americans'? Are you trying to deprive people of their religious liberty to hate and burn other people?

(Need I point out this is sarchasm?)

22. I don't know if thats sarcasm

I think that, at least in its usage to date, that's just an accurate statement, with no "cutting remark" qualities.

It does sound more like an honest expression of how the system works. I guess it was my tone that is sarchastic.

7. Thank goodness no one was hurt. It's certainly not that the man didn't mean to harm people.

They were luckly this time.

Congratulations to the quick-reacting staff members.

It's time bullies stopped calling the shots, wouldn't you think?

...or other misogynist fundamentalist behavior against women.
This war against women reminds me that countries at war with one another often adapt some of each others culture.

12. "a strong supporter of Planned Parenthood and advocate for women’s rights"

Texas State Sen. Wendy Davis, a strong supporter of Planned Parenthood and advocate for women’s rights, had her Fort Worth office firebombed Tuesday afternoon. Two staffers were in the office when the office was attacked, though reports at this time indicate no one was hurt. The suspect remains unidentified and on the loose.

The incident is the latest in a series of escalating attacks and rhetoric targeting vocally pro-choice legislators and family planning clinics. Previous attacks on clinics in Florida and California underscore the threat women and health care providers face simply trying to access or provide reproductive care.

Planned Parenthood supporters rally in Fort Worth

Posted on March 10, 2012 at 8:13 PM

Dozens braved a steady rain Saturday to protest feared cuts to the women's health program in Texas.

State Sen. Wendy Davis (D-Fort Worth) made a very personal plea, telling the crowd that she used services from Planned Parenthood years ago when she was a single teenage mom.

"I, like many poor women, relied on that as my only sole source for health care," she said.

Davis worries that 130,000 women may suddenly lose cancer screenings and contraceptive services because of the battle over funding Planned Parenthood.

These RepubliCON anti-choicers are so pro-murder and anti-women that it amzes me they get away with calling themselves Christians. Who would Christ have fire-bombed?

13. Pro-education gets you killed in Texas

Her office was firebombed after strong anti-Davis comments last week made her a central target of Texas republicans.

"Local Republican campaigns have two new dirty words.

Not Barack Obama.

Wendy Davis.

The state Senate Democrat from Fort Worth has suddenly become the Evil One in local campaigns, apparently for thinking Texas should rank higher than 49th in funding public schools.

When Republican candidates for the Texas House and Senate spoke Thursday in Arlington, they slung mud at absent opponents by tying their names to Davis'."

All those years of hate radio and spewers like Coulter and Palin advocating violence are changing our fundamental culture. Many of us saw this coming. It doesn't shock me at all.

Sad.

21. Affidavit: Man who attacked Senate office spoke of aliens

RT WORTH — A 40-year-old homeless man who spoke of aliens and twice visited state Sen. Wendy Davis' offices demanding to see her returned Tuesday and tossed a paper bag filled with six Molotov cocktails against the outer door, sparking a small fire, police said Wednesday.

Cedric Steele, who has been living in an abandoned home on Donnelly Avenue, was arrested late Tuesday in a convenience store parking lot in the 6000 block of Camp Bowie Boulevard, Fort Worth Police Chief Halstead said.

<snip>

Steele had visited Davis' office Friday and again Monday, requesting to speak with the senator about a tazing incident that occurred in Michigan, according to an arrest warrant affidavit.

He left behind part of a dead animal, "stating it was a new species and wanted the senator to see it," the affidavit said.
