At least two fire bombs were thrown at the Fort Worth office of state Sen. Wendy Davis (D) on Tuesday night, according to the Star Telegram.
Davis was not in her office at the time, but some staff members were present. They used a fire extinguisher to put out the small blaze.
No one was injured in the attack, but the lawmakers office was damaged by the fire.
Its unfortunate when things like this happen in the public arena, she said. It reminds us of how important it is for us to remain very civil in our discourse and to work not to foment this kind of anger in our community as we discuss things that are challenges that we all face and care about.

(7,865 posts)You know that the patriot act is only for Muslims, people of color, and peace activists. How dare you suggest that it be used against passionate 'real americans'? Are you trying to deprive people of their religious liberty to hate and burn other people?
(Need I point out this is sarchasm?)

(13,918 posts)I think that, at least in its usage to date, that's just an accurate statement, with no "cutting remark" qualities.

(7,865 posts)It does sound more like an honest expression of how the system works. I guess it was my tone that is sarchastic.

Congratulations to the quick-reacting staff members.
It's time bullies stopped calling the shots, wouldn't you think?

This war against women reminds me that countries at war with one another often adapt some of each others culture.

(101,295 posts)The incident is the latest in a series of escalating attacks and rhetoric targeting vocally pro-choice legislators and family planning clinics. Previous attacks on clinics in Florida and California underscore the threat women and health care providers face simply trying to access or provide reproductive care.

Dozens braved a steady rain Saturday to protest feared cuts to the women's health program in Texas.
State Sen. Wendy Davis (D-Fort Worth) made a very personal plea, telling the crowd that she used services from Planned Parenthood years ago when she was a single teenage mom.
"I, like many poor women, relied on that as my only sole source for health care," she said.
Davis worries that 130,000 women may suddenly lose cancer screenings and contraceptive services because of the battle over funding Planned Parenthood.

(4,433 posts)Her office was firebombed after strong anti-Davis comments last week made her a central target of Texas republicans.
"Local Republican campaigns have two new dirty words.
Not Barack Obama.
Wendy Davis.
The state Senate Democrat from Fort Worth has suddenly become the Evil One in local campaigns, apparently for thinking Texas should rank higher than 49th in funding public schools.
When Republican candidates for the Texas House and Senate spoke Thursday in Arlington, they slung mud at absent opponents by tying their names to Davis'."

<snip>
Steele had visited Davis' office Friday and again Monday, requesting to speak with the senator about a tazing incident that occurred in Michigan, according to an arrest warrant affidavit.
He left behind part of a dead animal, "stating it was a new species and wanted the senator to see it," the affidavit said.
