I must say that I'm a bit surprised to hear this, maybe the public is finally taking notice of Deal's ethics problems. For the most part Deal did a pretty good job of covering his tracks, but little by little the story is starting to come out.

(5,632 posts)I'm suddenly hopeful ... knocking Deal out of office would be a big deal down here. (pun sorta not intended)

(564 posts)This is very good news. Are these traditionally Republican strongholds? I hope this is a sign of things to come.

(14,881 posts)We ended up with Gov. Teabagger 38% when vote was split between a strong democrat-turned-independent (37%) and a weak democratic candidate (20%).
Gov. 38% was mentioned recently somewhere (I forget where, although I read it on DU) as possibly the worst of the horrible GOP governors.
First he cut taxes for the wealthy, which created an artificial budget crisis. Then he raised taxes on the middle, working and poor to pay for the budget crisis. No lie. My property taxes essentially doubled thanks to him, as did at least one co-workers. He has been an absolute disaster. Personally, I don't think I could survive 4 more years of him.

(79 posts)Their whole brand. Their raison d'être.
First he cut taxes for the wealthy, which created an artificial budget crisis. Then he raised taxes on the middle, working and poor to pay for the budget crisis.
What did the people who voted for him expect? That's exactly what the Republicans stand for and have for at least the last 40 years.
I suppose what makes him a bad Republican governor is that he directly raised taxes on the working class. That's some bush-league amateur oligarchy. A "good" Republican governor would have found plenty of more subtle and roundabout ways of increasing their financial burden and lowering their standard of living without having to actually raise anyone's taxes; and successfully marketed the decline as the fault of unions, liberal lawyers, immigrants, and the environmental lobby.

(51,443 posts)Q: In the race for Governor, imagine the candidates are Libertarian Frank Gilbert, Green Party Candidate Joshua Drake, Republican Asa Hutchinson, and Democrat Mike Ross. If the election for Governor were today and these were the candidates, which candidate would you support?
3% Libertarian Frank Gilbert
2% Green candidate Joshua Drake
43% Republican Asa Hutchinson
44% Democrat Mike Ross
8% Undecided

(12,977 posts)Pennsylvania is still negotiating -- Corbett wants to add job-search requirements and some other restrictions.

(27,083 posts)Wouldn't it be so great to see the end of Brownback?
And, to have a Dem at the helm in FL, the only true "swing" mega-state would help tremendously!

(95,337 posts)Hell I could find pond scum and run it against Corbett and the people of PA would rather have Pond Scum represent them.

(128,699 posts)We just have to make sure to make it so and GOTV. I think this go-around, the GOP "base" may sit it out because they haven't forgiven him for the Sandusky mess.

(16,926 posts)Do we really want Republicans who are limiting voting opportunities to stay in power? What about jobs? What about the infrastructure? What good are Ohio Republicans--kick them to the curb! Let's take our state back! Go Ed FitzGerald for gov!
