MEXICO CITY — The government of the Mexican state of Oaxaca has apologized to an indigenous woman who gave birth on a lawn after she was denied help at a public health center.

Oaxaca's state health secretary, Dr. German Tenorio, says in a statement Monday that the state is responsible for not giving Irma Lopez Aurelio and her son adequate medical attention.

Tenorio says that "the state of Oaxaca apologizes to Irma Lopez Aurelio and her small child."

Lopez Aurelio garnered attention last year when a photo of her squatting in pain immediately after giving birth was widely shared on Twitter and Facebook and then published on the front pages of some national newspapers.

Tenorio says the apology is part of a recommendation issued on the case by the National Human Rights Commission.

She still retained her dignity throughout.

Cannot imagine what kind of hell creates the kind of monsters who would reduce this good, decent woman to this situation, such a private moment conducted by necessity in full public view.

It makes her look very, very good, very deserving of everyone's respect. She looks like someone anyone of good will would want to rush to, to bring protection, companionship, support, and there she is, stuck on the lawn of a hospital which had turned her away.

It brings tears to the eyes, a deep, deep anger, and sadness over the fact this could have ever happened.

It hasn't been that long since a lady died waiting endlessly in an emergency room somewhere, one of several similar cases.

6. You're not alone, not by a long shot. I'll bet the world is teeming with people who feel the same.

Sooner or later, the people of this planet ARE going to come together, and when that happens, this kind of thing will never happen again.

I hope this lady lives long enough to see the world starting to spin in the right direction.
