TSA calls for more police at checkpoints after LAX shooting
Source: LA Times
The Transportation Security Administration is calling for an increased police presence at agency checkpoints after November's deadly shooting at LAX, according to a report obtained Wednesday.
The agencys assessment covers 14 recommendations relating to employee training, improved emergency technology and law enforcement presence that will be implemented at airports nationwide.
TSA Administrator John Pistole told The Times it was a measured response to the Nov. 1 attack at LAX in which one officer was killed and three other people were wounded.
The bottom line of all this is
that we are doing everything we can to provide for the best possible safety and security, Pistole said.

(5,310 posts)...as cops in general seem really trigger-happy of late.
The more militarized/weaponized "they" make LAX, or any other airport/transportation hub, the more there is a potential for collateral damage, brought right to ya, up close and very personal -- not to somebody else in some faraway hellhole like Iraq (what's that?).
I just picked up a friend at LAX yesterday, and, believe me, there are a whole lotta POLICE and BEYOND at LAX, they might be 25% of the human bodies present, from the looks/feel of it.
If there is one thing I hate with a passion, it's having to go to LAX to pick up somebody...anybody!
And I REALLY hate flying and all that entails.

(39,308 posts)Georgia is allowing concealed carry in the airport! We'll see how long that lasts.
We may have more nut jobs here but for sure Georgia has some that are planning right now to create havoc.
Never again connecting via Atlanta, well until they get rid of that new law.

(2,088 posts)that way, if someone is carrying anything (a tweezer, a lighter, a wadded up piece of paper, air), they can be shot on the spot by the TSA "providing the best possible safety and security."
Remember, all these screenings are dragnets against law abiding people. So, throw away that 4th amendment and welcome to O'Hare International Airport!

(520 posts)The last time I flew, I was standing in an enormous TSA line in Orlando. There had to be 5-10 thousand people crammed into that small area, trying to get through security. It occurred to me that a would-be terrorist could do a lot of damage at an airport before he ever got to security.

I mean FFS when the shooting started a bunch of people actually ran out onto the ramp(!) -- They were very very lucky that this tragedy wasn't compounded tenfold....
