‘My Little Pony’ fan, 11, may be brain damaged after hanging himself over anti-gay bullying

Source: RawStory.com

A North Carolina boy who was bullied for liking the television show My Little Pony is in critical condition and expected to have brain damage after trying to kill himself.

“He’s come home and say, ‘Mom, I’m tired of people being mean to me, I’m tired or people calling me gay, I’m tired of people telling me I’m ugly, that I’m stupid,’” mother Tiffany Morones-Suttle told WTVD.

Less than two weeks ago, 11-year-old Michael Morones finally decided that he couldn’t take the bullying any longer. “He hung himself off the side of the bunk bed, off the railing,” his mother explained.

Unfortunately, the oxygen supply to Michael’s brain had already been cut off for too long by the time his parents found him. He’s now fighting to recover with a tube down his throat in Raleigh’s WakeMed hospital. Doctors have said that he could suffer life-long brain damage.

1. I followed this on another site.

I think there's a donation page you can go to, if you want to help the family with the medical bills.

Thanks for posting about it. It's a soulcrushing case, and it needs the exposure.

32. I know. There was no reason to bully him. None!

It breaks my heart that he suffered so much for liking something I like too.

I really, really hope that something will happen to the bullies. Something is obviously not right at that school, if the kids there are so cruel that others kids will try to kill themselves to get away.

Just typing that made me want to cry. I hope he wakes up and makes a recovery. I want him to see the huge support he's getting everywhere, so he knows he's not alone.

Hmm. this is in NC, even the Research Triangle ain't safe from homophobia.

i dont know if there's a way to collectively arrest the children who caused his death

8. NC did just pass an anti-bullying law

Equality NC joined forces with parents of children with disabilities, especially autism, to squeak it through by one vote!

5. All my children love MLP and so do I.

My daughters, ages 8 and 6, and my son, age 2. I'm 36.

And anyone who has a problem with that, IS the problem.

6. That really sucks.

I am not a brony nor have I watched that show, but I didn't equate liking a show as part of sexual orientation.

Poor boy and poor family.

They really need to get a handle on bullying, particularly if it follows to the net.

11. You kidding? I was slammed for being a fan of the Saturday morning show "Isis."

"That's a faggot show with a dyke!"

Nope, nothing new, heck, I get silly looks now for being a Brony!

12. I don't mind what people like, as long as it is harmless and makes them happy.

It's better that way.

I have no idea what "Isis" is.
I tend to have a wide variety of interests, things that I like, but I tend to be not obsessed with things, so I rarely buy merchandise or things like that.

I do buy them sometimes for my collector friends.

13. 70's live-action Saturday morning TV show.

I was in my early teens and a walking ball of hormones, so of course I loved this show.
How this was become even thought of as lesbian, I have no idea.
But to bullies, logic is verboten...

14. No idea how that would be considered that...

The main character is pretty.

See when I was young, I got to watch Asian kiddy shows, with the Power Ranger types and Biomen. They were popular in Asia before it got introduced in America.

They even share props from show to show.

I was lucky not to be bothered by bullies.

17. Want to have some fun?

Go to Youtube and look up "Dynaman."

It was a show like "Power Rangers" that was on the syndicated show "Night Flight" years before the Power Rangers.

Just imagine the Power Rangers with the dialogue written by the MST3K guys.

20. I got to watch things like that...

I had Bioman, Space Police Shaider, Mask Rider Black...

My classmates loved Shaider due to the female lead who wears a mini-skirt and jumps high up in the air for some fan service.

Magmaman and Ultraman were AWESOME!

9. The bullies' parents should be sued out of every last penny

It is the parents who usually teach hate. Hate is never an innate trait.

That poor kid .. my heart goes out to him.

19. How would you write a law like that?

If child X perceives harm from child Y and child X self harms then the parents of child Y are financially liable?

How do you prove it? What legal standard would you suggest?

child felt he had no other option. Who knows what he might have discovered, cure for cancer, the origins of the species(human)? But no meaness destroyed him. So very sad. My good thoughts and sympathies to the family.

21. the old oh I'm Christian and your gate routine :(

been thru it. Pretty much changed my life and not in a good way. the fact that it's reaching people so young though. thats scary Clearly the anti bully bullshit isn't working.

Mostly because the bullies themselves go home and learn to be bullies. The punishment should be spread to the parents.

22. There is no direct way to make up for what happened to a once happy, fun loving, gentle person...

but what we have to do to stop this terrible scourge we place onto people identified as "other" who tend to be smart, gentle, creative, that is killing them. I wonder how bullied the gunman at Sandy Hook was, too. We need to seriously deal with bullying in this country. From the Chris Christi's to those who made a sort of hell for Michael Marones.

How have we gotten to turning all life and all people into winners and losers?

27. They should sue the school district.

And add "John Doe #1", "John Doe #2" etc. And then take depositions to find out which kids bullied the boy and the specific times and dates.

That is what you do when you aren't sure who the defendants are.

Then you dismiss (non-suit) the defendants that were not part of the bullying.

No one should ever be driven to that place...to the feeling that they are of no value and that they have no reason to live.

29. Another tragedy, for not following some narrow script.

There has been far to many such cases. All for failure to just let people be themselves. Tired of the bullying and suicides of kids who don't look/act exactly like everyone else. What are we supposed to be, clones?

And Michael’s parents say that their son would not want them to be angry at his bullies because My Little Pony teaches tolerance with the motto “Friendship is Magic.”
