Japan recalls its whaling fleet from the Southern Ocean
Source: Radio Australia News / ABC
Japan's Fisheries agency has told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation the country's whaling fleet is heading home, after catching less than a third of its quota in the Antarctic. ... The Sea Shepherd conservation group which harassed the fleet in the Antarctic says it's a massive victory for whales. Despite receiving a special budget boost of 31.9 million US dollars to fend off Sea Shepherd, the Japanese whalers were repeatedly obstructed by the activists. The Australian government says it welcomes Japan's decision to recall its whaling fleet from the Southern Ocean. It says it remains opposed to commercial whaling, including Japan's so called "scientific" whaling program. The Australian government says Australia will continue its efforts to achieve a permanent end to whaling through the International Court of Justice. ...end... Hence, the animal rights activists have to resort to "direct action". These guys could have been better neighbors. Let's jam to the Hoodoo Gurus:

5. Japan's government allocated the money for "security"
|
They allocated the funds in a budget for relief from the earthquake and tsunami a year ago. "Just to make it worse"

6. Probably just a conversion
|
I'd guess that would just be the news outlet (ABC) quoting the Japanese governments expenditures in US dollars instead of Japanese Yen.

21. I'm pretty sure the budget boost was Japan's money
|
When the AP reports a sum of non-US money, they give the amount in the currency actually used then convert it into US dollars. Most editors delete the "currency actually used" part and just report the US dollar equivalent.

Ken Buesseler, a scientist at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, who in 1986 studied the effects of the Chernobyl disaster on the Black Sea, said the Fukushima disaster appeared to be by far the largest accidental release of radioactive material into the sea.
Chernobyl-induced radiation in the Black Sea peaked in 1986 at about 1,000 becquerels per cubic meter, he said in an interview at his office in Woods Hole, Mass. By contrast, the radiation level off the coast near the Fukushima Daiichi plant peaked at more than 100,000 becquerels per cubic meter in early April. |

I hope that those who relentlessly denigrate Paul Watson and the Sea Shepherds will finally acknowledge that this intrepid group of activists have had a profound deterrent effect on the Japanese whale murderers.

|
Killing whales under the guise of "research" is such a sickening farce. The world community needs to get rid of that gaping loophole. |
