Kelly: Assemblyman says order for GWB traffic tie-up came from outside Port Authority
Source: NorthJersey.com
The George Washington Bridge lane closures that led to paralyzing gridlock in Fort Lee this past September were ordered by someone outside the Port Authority and possibly for an improper motive, said the state lawmaker leading the investigation into whether the closings were politically motivated.
There are documents that weve received that would indicate that there was somebody else who initiated this, said Assemblyman John Wisniewski. There are words that are used that would imply an improper motive.
Wisniewski, who has scheduled more hearings next week in Trenton on the controversy in his role as chairman of the Assembly Transportation Committee, declined to say who those other officials might be or what their motives were.
But he left little doubt that he planned to take a closer look at Governor Christie and his staff of political operatives. The governor jointly steers the Port Authority with New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, appointing its top executives and commissioners.

(2,442 posts)The would have been a public apology, and resignations, and somehow also linked to Obama.
But the Rethugs get away with this... Christie just stonewalls and ignores the press... and they just let it go.
Why isn't NY Dem Gov Cuomo (who ALSO has joint Port Authority Control of the GWB) screaming out and pointing the finger at Christie?
Here is an opportunity to throw a fastball at Christie's head... but instead the Left just whimpers along.
"Can Christie be trusted with power?" <-- I don't think so, especially at the Presidential level. Oh wait... Does Debbie Wasserman even know about this story?

(128,753 posts)Because this is 2014 and 2016 is 2 years away. Christie was just overwhelmingly re-elected so he's not running for that office again.
Characteristic rethug strategy would be to only focus on short-term gains and blow a wad too far ahead of when you really need the controversy to blow up... And thus by the time you really need the boost, the story is old. Meanwhile, the drip drip drip strategy seemed to work for the Virginia gubernatorial and statewide races (although their governors only serve 1-term), which lead to rejection of the GOP in general across the top of the state ticket due to the real and known corruption of McDonnell.
By stringing this out, it will forever be an albatross around Christie's neck should he ever consider declaring to run for President.

(26,549 posts)It's likely Christy himself didn't know - he's got some lieutenants who very much could have done this without telling Christy. it will take a very long investigation to figure that out.
So if we had a big splashy scandal right now, a few of Christy's lieutenants resign and he remains relatively unscathed for 2016. Having this simmer for a while makes it stick to Christy much better. Either we figure out he knew about it, or it keeps the sleaze in the public's attention for a lot longer.

Cuomo is most likely holding his breath hoping this all blows over real, real soon before someone decides to take a hard look at some of his appointees, too.

No one is discussing this aspect of the story.
Was HS apprised of the closing and how was it explained to and documented by them? Who contacted them to let them know? If they didn't know... why not? Am I wrong in thinking that this is an angle of this story that should be explored?
