Obama health care promise named 'Lie of the Year'

Source: NBC News

Fact-checking organization Politifact has named their “Lie of the Year,” and it’s bad news for the White House and the Affordable Care Act.

President Barack Obama’s often-repeated assertion that “If you like your health care plan, you can keep it,” won the ignominious honor for 2013, the group announced.

In a blog post, Politifact– which is affiliated with the Tampa Bay Times – said Obama’s promise was “impossible to keep” and has resulted in a “real hit to his credibility.”

Their first priority really was jobs jobs jobs...

making sure President Obama didn't keep his job...

and making sure he didn't get another one in the private sector...

and making sure as many Democratic members of Congress didn't keep their jobs either.

Jobs for you and I, that's a different matter. They didn't care about those.

I guess I wanted to post it for some discussion. Biggest lie of the year? It is totally way over the top. - So they make it sound like President Obama purposely and willingly went out his way to tell this big, huge lie. He didn't lie - why would he do that?
On edit - I read that Politifact is actually not neutral like I thought it was.

I've never really understood the whole "nah nah nah" with the fingers stuck in the ears attitude whenever a bad headline in posted. News is news. You can't just ignore bad news and bad headlines. The Latest Breaking News Forum is exactly that. Many DUers rely on it to educate themselves on current events. That's why you will see things there that you probably won't see in the other forums.

it is astonishing how news that is negative is rushed to LBN by people who never seem to post any other kind of news.

Secondly it is obviously not news but analysis.

The suggestion that this is the worst political lie of the year is the most obvious biased slant on what happened this year.

The ACA is allowing millions who didn't get insurance to get it, and tens of millions more upgraded policies.

A small percent of people who had terrible policies didn't have those policies grandfathered in as expected.

Most intelligent people understand that while the statement wasn't true, it doesn't in fact constitute a lie, which is a statement that is not only not true but was made with the intention of deceiving.

Most people are happy with the alternatives they are getting:

http://www.webmd.com/health-insurance/ca/20131124/in-california-some-happy-about-canceled-insurance-policies

Any reasonable person would think that the statements by the GOP over and over again this year that were both untrue and meant to deceive should have been considered. For example multiple statements by Senator Asshat from Texas saying that he didn't want to shut down the government at the same time he was shutting down the government would have been a much better candidate.

There are dozens and dozens of examples of this.

Finally politifact is not considered unbiased or reputable:

That he wasn't interested in him, and then denied it in the debates with John Kerry, No one in the MSM called it "The Lie of the Year". It was treated as nothing.

Bush was lying; I don't think Obama was. I think he just didn't know all the ramifications of his own law.

have included the timing caveat in that stump speech. It was a real miscalculation. They thought the grandfather clause would cover it, but they were not explicit enough. He should have simply said,

"For most people, in group and public plans, your plans won't change. Anyone in an individual plan will be grandfathered when the law is signed. So for most people, if you like your current plan, you'll be able to keep it. All new individual plans, though, will have to meet new standards so we can make sure you have good insurance."

that was Politifact's 2010 Lie of the Year huh? Or Romney's 2012 ad about Jeeps Made in China (the 2012 LOTY)?

Hell, Politifact considered its 2011 LOTY a Democratic claim about Republicans voting to end Medicare.

What false equivalence this site is based on. I recommend the non profit http://www.factcheck.org/ instead.

..."Politifact" is a website run by the Tampa Bay Times.

This was an ONLINE "poll" to rate 10 "lies" told this year. THEY picked the so-called "lies", then asked readers to rate them.

And not surprisingly, seven of the ten "lies" concerned comments about the Affordable Care Act.
