John Kerry meets with Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov to discuss Syrian chemical weapons plan

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov is accusing the US of threatening to withdraw support for Syria's entry into the Organization for Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) if Russia does not agree to a UN resolution under "Chapter 7" that would allow military intervention in Syria.

According to Russia Today, Lavrov said in an interview, “Our American partners are starting to blackmail us: 'If Russia does not support a resolution under Chapter 7, then we will withdraw our support for Syria’s entry into the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW).' This is a complete departure from what I agreed with Secretary of State John Kerry."

Speaking in an interview Sunday, Lavrov said he was surprised that the US was now pressuring Russia to agree to a resolution that will allow military intervention in Syria. He described the Western approach to the Syrian crisis as "negligent."

He alleged that the primary interest of the US was regime change in Syria and not peaceful resolution of the conflict. He said, "Our partners are blinded by an ideological mission for regime change. They cannot admit they have made another mistake.”

1. AllVoices is not a reliable source.

This is just a backdoor way of including a report by RT, the Russian propaganda rag.

http://technorati.com/business/article/allvoices-citizen-journalism-gone-bad/

A friend recommended AllVoices.com, a citizen journalism news site that welcomes all writers, allows self-publishing, and does not employ editors. I like the immediacy of self-publishing—seeing what I’ve written available to my thousands of fans (ahem…) as soon as I’m satisfied with the article. I believe I can communicate well enough, I have a decent grasp of spelling and grammar, and I have honed my writing skills in various positions over the course of decades. I have no delusions of being a great writer, but I think I’m okay.

AllVoices allows anyone from anywhere to write, and the site has thousands upon thousands of writers worldwide.

5. If it turns out that the facts are as reported...

will that just be propaganda or accidentally factual?

6. Part of reporting includes reporting both sides of an issue,

which this writer didn't make an attempt to do.

11. Not necessarily...

It isn't always necessary to state the obvious. meaning that an issue of concern is or could be in dispute in every report especially in a story that is developing as this one is and will continue to be probably for sometime.

Obviously, there will be denials by our State Dept or the White House in follow up reporting, at least that would be expected, and no doubt will be reported by the publisher, I would think.

All remains to be seen of course.

9. RT may actually be a pretty good source for what Russian officials say.

I mean, in this case, who better than a "Russian propaganda rag"?

All of the other links seem to come from that. And it says the remarks were made on a radio interview: "Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told Channel 1′s Sunday Time program."

And I don't see anybody denying that he said it.

Whether what he said is true is another story.
