1. Could have been a distraction

I wouldn't think Capitol Police would leave the site for any reason.

6. This was the SWAT Team that was called back!

The Capitol has officers on duty within the building...which means that those inside would still be protected!

9. Is the Navy Yard in their jurisdiction or not?

I'm not aware of anyone named "atreides1" being put in charge of security at the Capitol, but I'm willing to be further informed.

5. He was thinking it might be a diversion to leave Congress unprotected.

He was smart and did the right thing, IMHO.

12. I disagree.

What the tactical team was doing is referred to in EMS services as 'mutual aid', and it is VITAL in such situations. There was no acceptable excuse for what he did.

15. What was the specific sequence of events here?

You know that the Capitol went on lockdown, yes?

http://www.rollcall.com/news/capitol_officials_conferred_on_shootings_but_made_different_calls-227684-1.html

In particular, I would be interested in your source of information on specifically who was "recalled" from doing what.

DC Metro denies this story, btw.

16. The source is in the OP.

The Capitol being on lockdown does NOT require a tactical-response team, but an 'active shooter(s)' scene does. DC Metro can deny whatever they wish, but their knowledge would be second-hand, since they have no command or control over the Capitol Police Department, a separate, independent entity.

19. So what?

Woodward and Bernstein never identified "Deep Throat". Does that mean that their Watergate stories were incorrect?

10. I apologize for having been drafted, so many years ago.

PS: this is not your father's military. *

PPS: the U.S. Capitol Police are not a part of the armed forces.

* I might have to explain that to younger DUers. It's a play on an old advertising campaign.

13. You have to explain it to the police first ...

... they keep calling non-cops "civilians".

As if the Police is another military branch.

17. A lot of them think they are soldiers

They need to pull up their "big boy pants" and enlist to fight in Afghan for Democracy/Freedom
